Was planning on cornbread in the CI, but the wife is asking for something called "hot water" cornbread? No idea what it is or how to make it.
Thanks Denny!
We don't fry very often here, but I would be willing to give that a go. Certainly looks different than regular baked Jiffy cornbread that I make. That dude said it was soul food. Interesting...where my wife had it.
So I took a shot and tried to make it with Jiffy mix. Epic fail. I think actual corn meal is needed. While I dearly love my wife, I think we'll wait a while before another attempt. The kitchen was kind of a mess. I think it best I take her out to dinner tonight.
with no real quantities involved, it's Duke's Mayo, horseradish, Tony Chachere's seasoning, lemon juice, fine diced onion and sweet relish. When in the restaurant biz, we made it by the gallon, and there was a specific recipe. I have that somewhere. I think.
I spill a little dill pickle juice in mine these days. Learned that one from a FL born and raised cracker ex-GF.
I chop dill pickles and use a bit of juice in mine as well.
SWMBO bought what appears to be a 55 gallon drum of capers at Costco so I've been using those and little juice in mine.

"Come, shall we go and kill us venison? And yet it irks me the poor dappled fools, Being native burghers of this desert city, Should in their own confines with forked heads Have their round haunches gored."
While still simmering I made a pot of sauce today. Ground elk and pork, elk/pork Italian sausage links, elk/pork meatballs. The taster meatball was very good. Sipping a few cocktails before throwing the ravioli in the water.
James Pepper: There's no law west of Dodge and no God west of the Pecos. Right, Mr. Chisum? John Chisum: Wrong, Mr. Pepper. Because no matter where people go, sooner or later there's the law. And sooner or later they find God's already been there.
Definitely in the top five of my favorite sit down meals during winter.
Low and slow all day on the stove is the way to fly but a small cryo pack of smoked ham pieces with some canned new potatoes, Del Monte green beans and a spoonful of ham base is just delish. Add hot buttered rolls on the side and it's off the hook.
