How carefully do you watch the wind when chuck hunting? Couldn't find anything on it today on the www, but seem to remember from way back when reading that they would be spooked if they got a whiff of humanity.
The reason I ask is that this morning I was trying to get lined on one at about 200 yards when suddenly the wind switched and blew straight from me to my intended victim. Little bugger just vanished, and stayed gone. It's possible I was just spotted, but I was wearing camo and behind a fence and some bittersweet vines.
Whatyathink!

348, when I hunted chucks quite a bit in the 90's, can't say the wind was a major concern!

I used to hunt the Midwestern beanfields for chucks a lot back in Indiana in the 80s and early 90s. I don't remember them ever seeming to react to wind or scent but they do get spooky as hell after they've been shot at a time or two.

I can't say squat about chucks and the wind, but I couldn't help but notice I killed more squirrels when hunting into the wind...definitely.
Don't know why the same wouldn't apply to chucks.

If the wind dies down a bit this evening I'll go do some research....
