I gave up wearing a watch and rely on my portable internet terminal (phone) for checking the time.

Simple is better.

I assume that, in today's lingo, "gentleman" is referred to as "metrosexual".

My current watch cost about $12 and has been working fine for 7-8 years. I don't understand why the battery hasn't died. When it gives up, I'll buy another similar, twist the band off with pliers as I did this one, set the time, shove it in my pocket, and motor on. No point in complicating things.

Which worked great for me for a long time... until I took a job with a lot off meetings. It's easier to steal a glance at your watch on your wrist than the phone in your pocket or on the table with screen off.

Maybe for retired dudes who don't have to live by a schedule, but many of us working stiffs still need to know what time it is. And watches have always had a spectrum of price and adornment. That's not new.

The irony is the less expensive electronic watches keep better time than the more expensive mechanical watches, and neither keep time as well as a cell phone that references an atomic clock.

I wear a Tag I bought in Marsh Harbor in the Bahamas about 2001. Really never thought I would spend a 1000.00 on watch. Still working, and keeps good time.
Now with my wife that's another story, she has 2 Omegas. One knock around SS and gold. The other solid 18k she wears for dress. With women it's jewelry. Hasbeen

They have watches now as cheap as $100 that will sync with your cell phone via bluetooth or sync via satellite.

In my former life I was some times required to pose as a gentleman so my wife bought me a Rolex. The real me gets by just fine with a Casio that cost $29 or so. Someday one of my boys will get the Rolex. I just don't give a sht about impressing people the older I get. But that just me.

They also know what time zone you're in and will automatically adjust the time as you move from one to the next.

Meetings, court, any number of examples of where pulling my phone out to check the time will not be a good look. Swimming, diving, even in the shower, I can check the time. Out hunting in the rain or with gloves on too. I can check the time in bed, without having to find my phone or switch the light on. I also don't need to worry about batteries going flat, or finding some means for recharging out in the backblocks.

I haven't worn a watch since I got my first iPhone. I still have a Navy Seal Luminox I bought about 20 years ago when they first came out. The Tritium inserts don't glow anymore. I've also got a Timex Indiglo I bought about 14 years ago. It's still running on the original battery!!! Only time I wear it is when I'm bow hunting.

Pappy send me that Breitling and then you won't have to worry about refurbishing!

But you'd have to wind it; very retro!

My girlfriend about 1972 bought me a Seiko at a membership store and fortunately it stopped soon after. I took it back and got the Breitling instead. I think it was about $200 (stainless steel). Needs a new stem, crystal, band, and one of the caps for the stopwatch buttons. Maybe someday......

Jorge and I like ours though, after nearly a half century each.

I wouldn't call Rlx a POS, but they are a much overpriced tool watch and I think Jorge has a Zenith Elprimo not a Rlx.

Been wearing a SS Luminox (analog) daily for which I paid $200 bucks about 12 years ago. Only expense has been replacing the battery every 2.5-3 years. The very bright glowing markers on the numbers have slowly faded somewhat but can still see them clearly in the dark. I did immediately replace the leather band with a SS link which is still going strong.
