I have recently found a Cooper Rifle which has caught my attention and I would like some input on the value. Here I am in the midst of selling half my crap and I come across this. Anyway, here is what I know. First, it is in mint condition and looks to be brand new. It is a model 54. It has a stainless fluted barrel and a stainless action and a spiral fluted bolt. It has a BDL floor plate and sits in a synthetic black and red spiderweb stock with no venting on the forearm. Oh ya, it's a 260 Remington. I know all about the predicted death or dying nature of the 260. I don't care. I'm a fan. Anyway, I've tried to do some research on gun broker and various forums which, frankly, wasn't a lot of help. In trying to navigate Cooper's website, it isn't much help for identifying it exactly. So, if any of you can tell me from the information I provided which model, beyond 54, it is and what you speculate the value to be, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks guys. I'm pretty sure I could nab it for $1500. I need to contemplate this. I appreciate the input.

TBS, You'll be extremely hard pressed to find one for less than $1500. And, I'm with Whttail_in_MT - do it. do it. do it.

The only thing that puzzles me is the floor plate I thought all 54's had single stack detachable mags.

$1500 would be a very good price. But I am also wondering about the floorplate, my 54 has a single stack magazine. I have seen a prototype of a BDL style floorplate for Coopers but to the best of my knowledge they are not available yet. Personally I like the single stack magazine, it feeds very slick and has a good catch on it so there are no concerns about inadvertently releasing it.

I had one last fall for my Utah mule deer hunt, however it was in a 280AI. It was a fine and accurate rifle, but on the heavy side for mountain hunting.
I sold the rifle (for $1500) upon my return and went back to a couple of lightweights, a CLR/NULA in 7x57 and a RemingtonTI in 7-08..

donsm70 The 54 action rifles weigh about a half-pound less than the 52 action rifles, which is what your 52 was built on. Also the barrel contour of the 54 is slightly lighter and generally a couple of inches shorter than the 52's, it all adds up to a lighter easier carrying rifle than the 52. I had a 52 in 7x57 and could never warm up to it because of the additional weight but I love my 54, the handling and carrying difference is like comparing a pick-up to a Corvette. drover

If you can nab it for $1500, I would do it in a heartbeat. I've never seen an all stainless Cooper go for that.

FWIW,
If you want it for $1,500 and plan to keep it for a spell, no problem. If you plan to turn it for a profit, I'd say $1,250.
just my $.02

I'd jump, and personally, I'd rather have a floor plate versus a detachable magazine.

At first blush, it could easily appear to be a hinged floorplate. Perhaps that's what is in play here?

I was wondering that myself. Cooper makes a very good DM. It's only real apology, being that it's a single stack.

I had a 56, I thought the safety kinda cheap. The magazine loose, rattled a lot. It was a 264 Win mag, plenty accurate. A Sako is a better rifle in my opinion.

I have a Cooper custom classic 52 lefty in .30-06 with several upgrades. It's gorgeous, accurate, very well made and completely reliable. Kinda heavy, though. Bob

i have a Cooper Classic 54 in 260. LOVE the accuracy, handling, trigger, cartridge and DM. less enthused about short length of DM and safety. for 1500 I'd advise you jump on it, then use lapua brass, H414, and 120 gr Sierra ProHunters

What's the status on this one? I let it sit for several weeks after first seeing it knowing (assuming) it being a 260 would be a tough sell for a pawn shop. Additionally, usually, not always, they usually give about 33 cents on the dollar for most things. Their asking price has been $2000. After about a month, I offered them $1500. They politely said "no thank you" and that they were probably pulling it from their shelves and putting it on gunbroker this week. Oh, someone above was correct, it has the removable magazine and not the hinged floor plate.
