I expect a similar loss myself way too soon. My dad has been on oxygen 24/7 for a couple years. He was told to expect no more than 1 year. He is on borrowed time. He is my role model. I felt the same as you about my dad. Never heard of another person saying a bad thing about him. He died in 1995 and I still miss him dearly.
