I was watching and episode of "Meat Eater" on Netflix and he described them as a cross between octopus and bacon. That's a unique flavor description and I am reluctantly intrigued especially for deer or elk.
Ok, who's actually had them and how were they fixed?

Can't imagine deer or elk testicles tasting anything like octopus or bacon, but then I've never had them and don't intend to.

Closest I've had is fish milt, which really doesn't have much flavor and the consistance is somewhat like scrambled eggs.
While a cross between octopus and bacon sounds amazing, that could mean they chew like rubber and have a greasy salty taste.
I'd probably try them, very few things I won't or haven't tried from an animal.

Calf nuts are not bad. Usually taste like the bacon grease they are fried in.
I actually prefer lamb nuts.

Had "calf fry's" at the tavern in Noti, Or. about 30 years ago.
The way I recall, they tasted like the bacon grease they were cooked in.
They we sliced thin, dipped in flour, and fried in bacon grease.

458 Lott may have nailed first. I've had octopus a few times and it can be like chewing a Michelin. Salt/fatty would be bacon. Sounds like frying in bacon grease is the common thing to do. It would be hard to find anything NOT palatable when fired in bacon grease.
I'll try about anything but it doesn't sound like 'oysters' are anything but a novelty food item.

Octopus done properly is excellent, when one strays into my shrimp pot I save it to serve.
I was just thinking that the analogy could be either really good, or really bad.

Octopus can be great! I guess I wasn't clear that sometimes it can be chewy; especially when over cooked. Same with calamari. Flash fried it's great, overcooked and it is like little rubber bands.

No, I understood. My first thought was, bacon flavored octopus sounds great. Then I thought, if done wrong that would be horrible.

I don't know anything about octopus, but we always eat the whitetail testicles. If you don't peel them, they're real chewy. Throw them on the grill or do tacos with them.

Our folks fed us mountain oysters when we were kids but I can't remember how they tasted, no one spit them out, we were glad to have something. Did you ever hear the joke about the Texan that got killed eating mountain oysters......dang bull drug him to death!!

Beer batter and deep fried. There is still a small tavern a couple of towns over that has them on the menu.

I poached mule deer testicles in butter (followed the Meateater episode) and thought they were awesome. I will say there's a second layer of chewy membrane that I will remove in the future. The meat inside is very tender and mild flavored. The texture and flavor reminded me of one of those Aidell's bacon & chicken sausages. If you ground them and packed them in a sausage casing, I bet you could fool someone. Too bad they don't make bucks with more nuts on them haha.
In the future, I'll probably try slicing them in to little discs and frying them in a pan if getting that second membrane off them proves to be a hassle.
