Have a scope and a peep attachment but no mount. The mount is the hard to find part.

I have the boxes, paperwork and peep assembly and am trying to learn about the scope and mount. Didn't I see more than one way to mount them, one requiring drilling and one using tang sight holes, or are my wires crossed???? Maybe different rifles?
The box I have is for the 4x. The paperwork is for both 2.5x and 4x. The peep is in it's box, new and unused. I wouldn't mind playing with one unless I'd have to drill a rifle then I'd pass. What would be the next step? Are they worth playing with or just a bad idea that died?

I have some of the 2.5x scopes, auxiliary peep sights, and bases for a few different rifles. The Savage 99 base mounts via the factory D&T tang holes, but I think that they are just a novelty, not a practical scope or something I'd waste time and/or $$ on unless you're really bored and need a winter project.

So who here needs the peep assembly and box, instructions, and scope box for a 4x, all pretty mint, to go with their 4x scope and mount?

Before you do that I would ask some people what they think about the scope. From what I've read the Boone scope was low power and not as good as traditional glass. They look like one-half of a binocular and the mount looks like it could be easily damaged if the rifle was dropped or dinged against a rock or tree. But, having said that they do occupy a niche in the history of the 99 and have some value in that. I see the Boone mount and scope as a bit of a novelty.

Many years ago the grandson of the man who operated the Saturn Boone company sold the remaining inventory of scopes and parts on ebay. Stever and I both bought a lot of that stuff on ebay and directly. I have repaired several of them over the years. They are very fragile and I would sure not rely on one for a serious hunting encounter. A major design flaw is that the adjustment screws can be turned so far that they slip off the adjustment plate. Once this happens the scope has to be disassembled to realign them. Some of them come apart and some of them seem to have loctite on the threads and don't. But! no Savage Collector should be without one

I just got a 2.5x from the classifieds here. I am about to mount it on something and give it a whirl. I am thinking a 1941 Pre war R in 300, or a 1941 EG in 300 or a 22HP. They were made 51-54 I think so the only period correct way to go is an EG from the same few years. The only other 99 gun offered at the time was the R, and they already have scope holes for a standard style scope. That is if you split hairs, like I do. .

I have a 2.5X on my 1899 SR in 38.55. I had to make a repair shortly after I got it. One of the 3 mirrors inside dislodged. I find them a ton of fun.

Fun! And like the old credit card commercial used to say. 'Who could put a value on that." Hell, as long as you got it for practically nothing, and given you don't have to sell the family farm to buy a scope, I'd give it a whirl.

Had a 2 1/2 on my 1950 300R. Best I can remember it shot real good groups. I changed to 3X9 Leupold Vario-X II before I hunted with the rifle in 2014. Maybe I should put it back on.

I have a 2 1/2x and a 4x they are pretty neat little units. The scope mount stamped for the 760 Remington works on the model 99's also.
