salsola,
ever been to the blues festival? You bet! Maybe every other year (go backpack flyfishing other years). Its Memorial Day weekend and is good time. Low key, small town feel. Definately worth the price of admission (free!).

I love NM, but my haunts are more North/Central.
Sorry, I'm no help.

I'm not a big fan of New Mexico, but the drive from Luna to Silver is pretty sweet. Close to Arizona , too.

Thanks CCCC I was gonna ask Curdog same question if he was over toward Tyrone. We hunted in the south Burros. kinda NW of Tyrone. Best I remember. Last hunt there was 83 ML season. The critters were a bit stressed then I believe from pressure of folks trying to feed their families when mines were laying off folks.
Last year (84) we moved up the highway toward Pleasanton and hunted the rim. The answer is yes. We were hunting land owned by the Tyrone mine, some of it had been reclaimed after the mining was done . Actually, more deer were seen on the reclaimed areas than otherwise. We had access to land South of Siver City, but most was West and Northwest. I killed mine about due West of Siver City at about 6000 ‘ elevation. There were twelve in my group and four in another group. Everyone who wanted to kill a buck did so, but mine and one other were the only ones I’d consider trophies.
Never holler whoa or look back in a tight place
