Reason for 2 weeks earlier for Trad Bow hunters like you said hookeye you hate undergrowth early season-Take up Crossbow as you said and be happier- -Undergrowth helps the Trad group hunt the deer better-not be seen drawing bow- the deer are dumber first two weeks too-giving Trads more shots at Deer till they finely make a kill shot after 3 or 4 misses on average -

I mean how can you miss with a scope on crossbow and same with rifle and release on compound and sights- -Fast Humane Kills- the deer deserve that-

I don't agree with this but we have these people speaking for us, not good,,,

Carr's Deer Farm was interviewed by The Friends Of Animals ,the only game farm that responded;;;

The Facts About Bowhunting

By Donald Carr
Carrs Deer Farm pay only if you make a kill. Crossbows and Rifle Hunts only

It has been argued by many that bowhunting is a
more humane type of sport hunting, pitting the
hunter against the hunted on more equal ground.
FATE has studied this issue carefully and
concluded that the facts present an altogether
different story – bowhunting is inhumane and
wasteful.
Wounding and crippling losses are inevitable. Studies indicate that for every deer killed
by bowhunters at least one or more is hit and not recovered, compared to deer shot by
gun where only one out of 14 shots is not recovered. The average bowhunting
wounding rate is 54%; the average shots per kill are 14. According to the Minnesota
Department of Natural Resources (DNR) 14,744 deer were killed in 2002 by bowhunters.
Of these deer, 2,528 were fawns. All these animals endured prolonged suffering before
they collapsed and died.
Bowhunting is an extremely demanding, exacting sport. A hunter must be within 30 or
so yards of a deer, draw and release an arrow undetected, and hit the vital areas of the
animal. At 35 yards, a mere 2½ yard error in range estimation can cause a complete
miss on a deer-sized target. A major factor in archery inaccuracy is the rainbow
trajectory of arrows. Arrows fly everywhere and strike deer anywhere. Shot placement
is, for all practical purposes, random. The most skillful archers wound more deer than
novices. Better shooters connect more often; giving them more opportunity to wound.
More often than not, poorly hit deer are lost. Animals commonly “jump the string” upon
hearing the release of an arrow – they reflexively move some distance before the arrow
reaches them. Animals can completely evade an arrow at a distance of 15 to 20 yards,
which means they can also partially evade an arrow, leading to a wounding shot.
Bowhunters state that the broadhead arrow is an efficient killing tool, causing an animal
to bleed to death the instant it is struck. For an animal to bleed to death, its bloodclotting
system must be overwhelmed, which rarely happens. To overwhelm the system,
the broadhead must penetrate the heart or sever one or more major blood vessels;
otherwise, an animal will not bleed to death – the blood-clotting system sees to that.
Bowhunters claim that broadheads inflict clean
wounds that heal quickly. In fact, most crippled
animals do not recover from their wounds; rather,
they routinely contract peritonitis or a septic
infection. The simple truth is that the main cause
of infection is today’s multi-bladed broadhead,
which inflicts dirty wounds. As broadheads
penetrate an animal’s body, numerous hairs are
clipped, often caught in blade slots, and then
distributed throughout the wound channel. Then
clotting and dried blood-matted hair seals the
external wound opening. The bacteria from the
clipped hair begin multiplying in the wound channel, with the result being lingering agony
for the animal and an extremely painful death one to two weeks later.

I like hunting later with trad. See no friggin' problem with lesser foliage.
Dunno where you get the nonsense.
Most guys I know shoot close when using trad. Kinda stacks odd in their favor.
The deer are stupid up to gun season. And sometimes a week into it LOL.
If you like X bows, so be it..........but don't blow smoke up people's arses about em.

Higher pressure areas, trad does suck after gun season.
Deer very jumpy.
Might have to shorten your range from early bow season.

Funny, only wounded deer I saw last yr, was beat to chit from another deer. Looked like guts hanging out, left rear leg pulled up..........right side of rack had tines busted.
3 yrs ago my buddy shot a big buck that had been gored........lucky for the deer, it was a puncture through hide and not guts............but he laid up in a fallen tree and licked it for a stretch, got up and then ate a Barnes bullet.

Wonder what buck has been beating the crap outta deer in our area..............

My old spot............had 8 dead deer from car hits..........in one deer season. Dunno how many died on other side of the road or ambled past our farm to die beyond.
Hell even at our new place, a little thicket..........I had to drag a fresh smack off the road before hunting.

Too many bowhunters think a decent scratch on a deer is a killing shot. All that blood.............tracked for miles they say, then nothing.

Maybe, maybe not.

I hit a branch and clipped a nice 9 pointer. 2 weeks later my buddy shot him in gun, wound healed just fine. He left a good trail for about 75 yards after my arrow zinged him.
Bet 50% of supposed bowhunters would have gone with the "buckets of blood" story BS,

Too many think hitting a deer and losing it, is better than a miss. How much is truth, how much is spun to be more than it is? Who knows.
Don't believe everything you hear.

Wounded and lost does not mean killed..
Gotta look at various studies and maybe read between the lines.
Also at bow/gun shops employ a bit of a filter.

My guess is that wounded/crippled deer proly fall to coyotes before infection.

Leave it the hell alone.

There is no movement ore resolution or even a suggestion of making any changes to the WI archery deer season. Only the crossbow season is finally being set and the final duration will be shorter than the duration during the trial period.

The trial period is over and the season has been set. You sure love beating a dead horse.

Im going to predict a lot of disappointment coming your way. LOL wink

But still, Im certain the crossbow season will be plenty long so you becoming a crossbow is still a good investment.

I'm feeling sad for you. You are in for a real shocker. But hey, get out there and get you one of them crossbow thingys. You will still have a nice long season in WI. It wont be as long as the archery deer season but it will still be long enough.

I seeing everyone point

Just remember some Real men only get a week vacation hunt -The firearms season what they live for ,,,

Crossbow are what I call Mother-In-Law weapon you really don't need them around you very long

Crossbow hunting like being in God Waiting Room ,your too old pull back a bow and rifles hurt when they kick you now knocking out your dentures -

I say keep crossbow season same length but just Does only and buck =Spikes up to 4 pointers -

That is not on the table. The plan is to finally set the WI crossbow season at a duration shorter than the duration of the trial (data gathering) period. ITs no big thing. The crossbowers will still have more than enough time to do their crossbowing.

CrossBOWs like Ten Point Nitro cost more than 80% rifles so the cost hurts and people are demanding be treated like bow and rifle hunters

The crossbower in WI will still have ample time to use that thing. They will still have a separate season to do what it is they do and a separate license and separate registration. Everything separate of real bowhunting. Everybody wins.
