1970s Colt Lightweight Commander. A true mix of Old School and new. That gun screams 1970s.

Has light trigger (why I bought it). Think new in early/mid 90's. Pachmayr arched MS housing, rosewood grips given away. Wilson guide rod. Flawless. Sights suck, but it chews a ragged hole at 50 ft. Need to send off for Bomar rear...........but trust it like no other............so it stays with me.

Another photo I put together, with Grandpa's pics and post cards sent to his sister from 1918. He was an Army Air Cadet stationed at Kelly Field. If you visit the Texas Air museum there, you should see these post cards and his photo that I donated to them last year for display. http://www.texasairmuseum.org/

A Remington Rand isn’t technically a Colt Can't argue that. I guess it's about as close to some of the really nice vintage pieces posted here as I can get. Nice stuff. an unfired in the kraft box remington isn't some kind of ghetto gun. It would sure bring more dollah than most of the mixmatched colts you will find circulating.

But it's pretty clear i ain't gonna get it.

Started carrying this in 1991 as I recall. It became my backup/ off duty gun for a while when I carried 1911 on duty in the mid/late 90s, before I switched to a .45 Glock.

My 1st EDC................. MM MM, that is a great looking rig--reminds me of some rigs i used about 30 years ago. they are more than relevant to this day. i remember the old S&W rear sights on those--was it by per chance worked on by Kings?

Thanks for the kind words, HV. No, that wasn't done by Kings, & the concept came from Swenson, but I did the work including making the front sight from a partridge type target sight. It has a little more TLC on the parts that matter as well.............100% reliable. My 2nd Dad was an extremely accomplished gunsmith & machinist & I had the benefit of advice, help & access to a 1st class shop for a goodly portion of my life. I bought that gun new in 1973, IIRC...........1st handgun I ever bought & it became my 1st EDC. Regards, MM

great job--the front sight is a winner (and can be a challenge to do).
you are very fortunate to have that type of person in your up-bringing--it really boosts a person's progress--to start early, and at home.
really enjoy your 1911 posts--with the exception of the HK p7 and HK USP, the 1911's are my favorite CF semi rigs.

Yes, regardless of what some gun heathens think, the 1911 is still at least somewhat relevant. MM

I actually shot a match a few weeks ago with my 1911 Commander and out of 90 shots, it only balked once when I had too much thumb on the slide while using the slide release. I love the way a 1911 points but dang you gotta be on your toes to run one well.

Nice gun TWR, but as to your comment, that's never been my experience. Never had an single issue with adding thumb pressure to a slide, but I'd expect the same issue if that happened with most any other semi too. JMHO. MM

Colt series 70 repop I got in about '08. Sent to Colt to have a model "O" package applied to it. I had Ken Crawley add a cylinder and slide smooth face medium trigger and perform a trigger job on it and a night sight in the front and open the notch up on the Novak rear sight. Need a new pic, it now has Wilson Bullet proof Thumb safety and slide release and an Brown flat checkered mainspring. I need to get some pics of my Stainless series '70 with the 100 year rollmark and my 100th anivIII Colt 1911 Sold my 1942 all original usgi WB marked Colt here on the fire to fund a Les Baer UTC. I gave my other stainless government model to my son.
