Does the Barnes LRX have a deeper cavity than the regular TTSX. Curious about expansion at the lower velocity of longer shot distances.

I may be incorrect, but I believe that they are virtually identical. The LRX is shaped slightly different to maximize BC! memtb

I guess the retained velocity should be better. That would help.

The LRX is designed to expand down to 1600fps instead of 1800-2000 fps like the TTSX. I don't know the design details that cause this difference, but that's the claim that I've seen Barnes make.

If I recall correctly, the front end is annealed to be softer.

If I recall correctly, the front end is annealed to be softer. That would be great. I've got 3 different weights,in two calibers in a shopping cart. Might just order them.

Well....darn it! Should have researched prior to answering. My apology!
Also, angers me that after years of asking Barnes for a much better ( weight and BC) bullet for my rifle, I gave up, developed a load with a bullet ( too light) I really didn’t like (a better long range bullet), had my turrets built for my Leupold CDX......then they bring out a slightly ( weight and BC) better bullet. And now, after buying a bunch, while on sale.......I find out it should give better expansion at extended ranges. What a depressing way to start the day! memtb

The light for caliber monos sure flatten out the trajectory. I'm looking for single digit corrections out to 400 yards. Either the 270 Win,or 280 AI. THE 110 TTSX in .277,and 120 TTSX IN .284 deliver the flat trajectory, but not much of a BC or SD.The LRX seems.like a fair compromise provided it will open.at lower velocities. Can't guarantee connecting with bone for.insurance.

With the 20 grain increase in bullet weight.....”if” I don’t lose too much muzzle velocity, given the gain in BC and the expansion at lower velocities, I’m guessing I could potentially add 100 to 150 yards to my maximum effective range. If I can keep the 270 grain LRX somewhere around 3100 fps, it should be a strong downrange performer. Wishful thinking, at least! memtb

A nice man at Barnes answered my email. He said the LRX does infact have a different nose cavity to promote long range expansion. Who wants to section one?

It would pay to remind handloaders to expect that some rifles will not like a chosen bullet. We tend to avoid that subject here but I have loaded most of the bullets listed here and have a 7x57 that loves the 145LRX and hates the 110TTSX. Have a .280AI that loves the 110TTSX and hates the 140LRX.
We may steer life choices, but we cannot control the pot holes.

My Sendero in .264 Win Mag loooooves the 120 TTSX. I’ve yet to run them through a chrono but they are smoking by a maximum load of retumbo. I will try the LRX soon. I’m formulating a load for mule deer and antelope.

I just noticed the 6mm 95 grain LRX. Sounds like a helluva elk bullet for the medium to large 6mm rounds - at least for the rifles with quick enough twist to stabilize the bullet.

The 6.5mm 127 has shot like a champ out of a couple .260s and a Creed. We’ve only shot coyotes and steel with them thus far, but they’ll be loaded in my wife’s rifle for deer and antelope this fall..... kids may use it on elk too.
You better pray to the God of Skinny Punks that this wind doesn't pick up......

.375 AI. Getting 3130 fps with the 250 TTSX, not quite maxed out! Went to 3160 fps, but the groups were starting to open up, so backed-up to 3130 fps. Thinking that 3100 is at least theoretically possible! memtb

But you can probably get about whatever velocity you want. Once.
Running a 375 AI at 378 Weatherby velocities is a fool's errand.
