For most of my life I dreamed of building my own house. Three years ago I finally did it. I did everything except the foundation and drywall. It was extremely rewarding and a ton of work and I am glad I did it. I think this new forum is a fine idea. What do ya think of my handy work? Just kidding, here is the real deal.......

Looks like there would be more interest in it than there is in the Australia forum that so many clamored for.

I wish I knew how to build stuff.
Same here. I can do very basic things, but when it comes to planning, design and more advanced measuring, cutting and fitting, I'm in over my head. I'd be okay with that except that leaning chimney has got to go.

I'd love to see it. I've built 3 myself and would love to see what others have done.
They say everything happens for a reason. For me that reason is usually because I've made some bad decisions that I need to pay for.

The Hunters Campfire could be a great place for it if we had a Religion/Politics/Other Nuttery forum.
Rural living? I like the "rural living" title better. Growing crops/gardens and raising livestock topics could be discussed there also?

I've seen irfubar's place (from the outside only as he would not allow me inside any of the buildings) and it's beautiful.

I'm in. My family is in the process of securing a long-term lease and remodeling my grandparent's house on Portsmouth Island, NC. Here is a link to a National Parks Service report on the specific house I'm talking about: https://irma.nps.gov/DataStore/DownloadFile/549403

Rural living? I like the "rural living" title better. Growing crops/gardens and raising livestock topics could be discussed there also? That forum already exists. Look under "Miscellaneous".
