Good job.
Most important part is the bone.......and saving the juice from when you cooked the ham.

I use navy beans, onion, of course, garlic, no added salt necessary.

My wife introduced me to navy bean soup, got her to try it with ham shanks and she loved it. Often add a table spoon of Bore"s Head ham glaze for a little extra flavor(kind of like ham drippings).

I love the stuff. My old German Grandfather made the best soup ever.

I always smoke hams with the bone in and use the bone for soup. I use onion, celery. black pepper, bay leaves, garlic, and pinch of thyme. I have been using my insta pot pressure cooker, and that really makes things easy.

Looks great!
I often take a cup of beans and purée them, then stir them back in. Makes for a really nice smooth texture.

So long as it's warm enough to keep windows open.
Powdered ginger in the beans, not enough to taste, helps that. Some enzyme thing. Oddly fresh ginger doesn't seem to work.

Oh, yes. Yes indeed. Ham hocks and Navy beans, Great Northerns, limas, or butter beans. The last being my all-time favorite.

That'll work! I've kinda angled away from buying ham hocks, as there are only a couple brands to choose from down here. Found that ham shanks from the Spanish markets have more meat on the bone. Example: Sedano's and Bravo when they have them. Prices are better than the gringo markets, too.

Love it !
I usually use green or yellow split peas, instead of beans.
Cook until the peas break down, delicious.
