No and yes you are...

I got a .22 WMR, .300 H&H, and .375 Ruger, two use magnum in the name and two use a magnum bolt face. Would love to shoot a .358 Norma Mag someday to see if I really want one as bad as I think I do. I don't shoot my magnums as much as my other rifles except my .22 WMR now that ammunition is available again.

I've lived most of my life in Colorado and Montana. I hunted deer, elk, moose, sheep, etc for over 35 years before I got my first belted case magnum rifle, a 7mm Rem mag. Five years later I built a .375 Rem Ultra mag, and another five years later I built my .300 Weatherby, which is now my favorite rifle. My biggest regret with the .300 Bee is that I didn't get it 45 years earlier.

I studiously avoided magnums all my life and never felt like I was missing anything. If a pre-64 M70 .300 H&H fell into my lap I wouldn't push it away, but beyond that, meh.

I had a 270 WSM, 7 rem mag and a 257 a few weeks ago. the first 2 went on consignment and the other my brother now owns. I bought a 300 win mag last weekend.

I have sold all my "magnums" but two. I kept my 375H&H and my 300 H&H. I do own others that are quite powerful but don't have the word "magnum" in their name. Those that come to mind are the 9.3X62, the 9.3X74R and the 404 Jeffery.

"Magnum" is not a definitive term at all. It was used mostly to mean "modern" in the 60s and 70s and some of the 80, more as a marketing aid then to define anything that was really meaningful.

We have a 416 Rigby and a 600 Nitro which are not named "magnum", and we also have a 222 Remington magnum, a 22 Rim Fire magnum and the 357 magnum and 44 magnum.
The word "magnum" is used to denote "more powder capacity" then the standard shells of the day, but that's a loose way to see it I suppose. A 22 WMR has more capacity then a 22 LR and is a "magnum" ....in that it's a rimfire, ..... but is far behind the lowly 22 Hornet. which is one of the least powerful of all the Center Fire 22s.
