What are the first two letters / digits in the serial number, is it a saddle ring model, what is the length of the barrel?

20" barrel and not a saddle ring. S# Y49xx Looks like a safe queen. 1964? Last year these were made was 1968?

Yes,Y is 1964 production.
They made straight stock until 1983 in different barrel lengths.
A .35 REM collector quality, extremely clean, went for around $750 last year on GB. It was a 1960's saddle ring though.
That one you are looking at w/ peep sight and 95% is worth the $550 he is asking....and maybe more if it has some really nice wood grain on it.

Thanks. I would have bought it already if it was a .35
I will have to think about this one over the weekend.

I will have to think about this one over the weekend. Additionally, the 1960's had the rounded lever, instead of the square lever they changed to in the 1970's, which gives it more of the old western look and would help hold the value better. Also, 30-30 ammo is cheaper, and more readily available for shooting enjoyment. "Clean" 95% 1960's models don't just pop up every day. 550 with a peep is a good price if it also has the original front and rear iron sights. Sell the peep for 50-75 if you want to, and you'll be getting it for less that 500 which is a really good deal.

Elk, your killing me. Yes, I really like the rounded lever. Yep, original open sights with hood too.

Elk, your killing me. Yes, I really like the rounded lever. Yep, original open sights with hood too. Take 5 $100 bills over to him and lay them on the table, and tell him that's all you can afford. Then tell him, "It would really mean a lot to me if you'd sell me this nice gun".....and zip your mouth. It's a good deal even at 550.......Go buy it. I've seen the junk on GB for 500-550, then add shipping and FFL fee. That 95% is a real good deal for 550 out the door. Go buy it....NOW.
