I've never understood why Remington quit making the LVSF. I have one in 243 and it's one of my best shooting rifles. I wanted one badly when they first came out, just couldn't decide which caliber. I was waffling back and forth between a 22-250 and a 17 Remington. Then Gander Mountain in Paducah KY marked down their remaining one they had in stock, which was a 221 Fireball. I picked it up, with the intention of buying it, then decided I didn't want that caliber. Went home, thought about it some more, especially the price of the rifle, was down that way a week later, and it was gone. I eventually got the 243 from Zanders on another closeout.

I'm of the opinion they were one of the best 700's ever built. I was not a fan of the stock, so I restocked mine and added bottom metal. It still shot every bit as good as it did in the original format. Maybe varmint hunters didn't like the stainless shine, and matte stainless might have gone over better. Whatever the case, I'd sure like to see them bring it back

I picked up a LNIB 223 Stainless Varmint in a HS Precision stock 2 months ago. The rifle is a real shooter. Only flaw was the POS xmark pro trigger. I never checked the manufacturer date on it.

I agree, it was a nice rifle and you are lucky you grabbed the .243. Its maybe the toughest caliber to find in the LVSF, that and a 7MM-08 where always hard to find. I'd sure like another 7MM-08!!

Not quite up to the same level of fit and finish but the model Seven Predator is spec'd out similar, available in 22-250, and can be had for extremely reasonable prices.

I had 2 LVSF's, one in 7mm-08 and one in 223. Traded away the 7mm-08 recently but still have the 223. I agree, one of the best Remington ever offered and they are near perfect if you mount them up in a Ti stock.

Mine is a 308 Winchester and has been my main hunting rifle for a long time. I put it in a McMillan 700 Classic stock.

I shot the heck out of it before I enlarged my herd of 308 rifles, several primer bricks worth of handloads and a bunch of LC Match ammo. The barrel is getting a little tired, it won't quite shoot like it used to.

I’ve got two. 221 Fireball and 223 Rem. Both bought here on the fire and both excellent shooters. I did have to have both stocks replaced due to gummy pads. I love the light weight they offer and have never had an issue that I know of with the shine of the stainless.

I have 3 of the Model 7 Predators, 2 in 223, and one in 22-250. I love them. I've killed a bunch of stuff with my first one in 223. I think this may be the most underpriced centerfire rifle on the market these days.

I put my LVSF in a T1 stock, and you're right, it's as close to perfection as you'll find.

I had a 223 and a 243 but something new and different caught my eye. I did keep a 308, 7 08 and a 221.

Great looking rifles but I wish they would’ve twisted some of them right.

Tom264 is right.

The LVSF was a great design, with a typical Remington goat [bleep] for twist rates.

Seems to me Remington is managed by a bunch of idiots. Anything that is worth anything is discountinued. If they took the laminated mountain rifle stock put a standard weight barreled action, would be a perfect rig. If you chambered the XR-100 in 22 BR or 6MMBR and in sporter or heavy sporter with a classic stock instead of that thumb hole crap they put on it. So many stupid moves. Never understood why they didn't market the BR cartridges as the original short mags.

Remember when they did the special run Mountain Guide rifles? (SS Mountain Rifle contours in TI stocks for... Gander Mountain?) They must have stopped making them because they sold too fast.

One of many great models and calibers Remington has walked away from. I stopped trying to understand their business model a long time ago, it makes little sense unless you are trying to ruin a company. I have an LVSF in .221 and a Mountain Guide in .243, both great rifles that should still be around.

I'm a fan if they'd twist them right. A 8-twist 6.5 CM would be the cat's!

Exactly what I was thinking when I opened the thread.

I just got my 22-250 back from the gunsmith, shot the original barrel out. My boys grew up and learned to shoot CF rifles with this rifle and both killed their first deer with it. The original barrel had probably close to 4000 rounds through it. Mostly Varget, and Hornady/barnes bullets.

New barrel is a 1:8 twist and will be getting sorted out after the deer seasons.

I have a new CDL 6.5 with an 8 twist. I has the wood stock, but the barreled action is about a dead ringer for the LVSF. Too my disappointment the fluting might be a hair shallower.

James Jr. 2 days ago there were 3 LVSF on GB. A 223 & a 22-250 in the usual $850 range & another supposedly scarce & high priced one. I keep an eye out for them & they always turn up.

Exactly what DrDeath described. Picture the current 700 mountain rifle 22" in a black B&C stock, but a ADL blind mag.

I picked up the Cabelas version, which is blued not stainless, off the clearance rack in 7mm-08.
My only regret is not also buying the 308 next to it. I'm not sure what other calibers they chambered for, maybe 243?
I haven't messed with my stock but I might bed it, not sure if has a short AL block, pillars, or nothing in there.
