I'd find an older KS in 30.06 or 35 Whelen and feed 200 partition / 225 partition in the respective chamberings.
(if you must, the .375 H&H was also chambered in the KS).
Trimming your 300mag to 20" pretty much equals a very loud-mouthed 30.06. Assuming you won't be wearing hearing protection to sort out a wounded bruin, that's uber-bad for your ears and for anyone else in close proximity.
