The “truth” is that there can be many different ways and varying costs toward obtaining citizenship and there are many possibilities and preclusions involved with dual citizenships being maintained.

There’s more truths on this subject but those just about cover it.

15 or 20 years ago, my brother had a friend who met a girl from the Philippines online. He went over there and married her. He then spent about $25k getting her a visa to immigrate to the US. She got off the plane with her visa in one hand and divorce papers in the other. It cost him another $25k to get rid of her. Yes, she came in legally, in a manner of speaking.
I don't know what the visa money was spent for, just that he paid it.

It's the little things that make us who we are, If your dad had not taken you to see that carrier......Who knows.

What year did your Pa fire that chevy up and come over here?

Enjoy that pension, you've earned it.

United States Oath of Allegiance

"I hereby declare, on oath, that I absolutely and entirely renounce and abjure all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate, state, or sovereignty, of whom or which I have heretofore been a subject or citizen; that I will support and defend the Constitution and laws of the United States of America against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I will bear arms on behalf of the United States when required by the law; that I will perform noncombatant service in the Armed Forces of the United States when required by the law; that I will perform work of national importance under civilian direction when required by the law; and that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; so help me God."

You and your former nation can think what you like but America and Americans take that Oath seriously and in any circumstance you will be judged by it.

Last heard it the week before Thanksgiving when my wife took it, all up cost was about $2K, I did the paperwork.

Agree but it doesn’t mean giving up your previous passport or citizenship of another country.

I see we have a few "Legal" immigrants on the fire, pretty cool really. I'm glad you Gals and Guys made it, I hate to say it but you're probably more proud of becoming an American than a lot of Americans are being born an American.

My wife's best friend is a Russian immigrant and And damn proud to be an American. Sometimes when she gets a little tipsy she'll forget her english and start talking Russian and she'll also get a little dyslexic at times with American sayings, she'll look at you all serious and say fuqk a mother! The gal is a lot of fun.

She is a hell of an artist as well. Link.

Illegal immigrants come over here and have no intention of being a citizen or of being an American just coming here illegally signifies that fact.

Illegal immigrants can piss off.

I have a friend, fellow scoutmaster, who was born and raised in Canada, served as Lt. Commander in the Canadian Navy. He is a naturalized citizen of the U.S. He told me it took ten years and $20,000 to become naturalization.

You could be pretty well inbred by now.

Only 28 females were on board.

Even if generations are 40 years in your family, that's 10 generations.

You ought to have 512 grandmas at the 10th generation.

UPhiker,

I don't know the current figure but in 2009, when we finally got our adopted daughter naturalized (as a DIY project), it was about 3,000.ooUSD "out of pocket" & MANY, MANY hours of "aggravation" in dealing with the lazy, uncaring, "soul-less bureaucrats" of (what was then called) The US Immigration & Naturalizaton Service.
(I did all of the "stuff" myself, as I didn't have the 25,000.oo that the "usual" immigration lawyers wanted to do the same things that I could do, though they could do them MUCH quicker. - One lawyer told me that he could get my daughter naturalized within 30 days OR he would refund the 40,000.oo that he quoted me.)

Within one year, I lost count of the SILLY, time-wasting, administrative errors & some OUTRIGHT falsehoods that I was told by the bureaucrats during that long/exhausting process.
(The INS is "really good" at LOSING important documents, including "misplacing" letters that the agency received & "signed for" by CERTIFIED MAIL. = In many cases, someone at INS claimed that they NEVER received the document, until they were faced with the USPS "green card" whereon the document was signed for. In several of those cases, the bureaucrat said: We may have received it but we cannot locate it, so you have to send us another certified copy.)

I came to the conclusion that the MAJOR problem with the INS is that the employees KNOW that they cannot be fired for "doing nothing", or even for complete incompetence/inability to do the minimum job requirements.

yours, tex

I think that most of us can agree that it is much harder, longer and more expensive than it was when most of our ancestors came to this country.
