Subsonic rounds were not my focus at the time, but the cartridge was a powder miser, brass was everywhere, and it was easy to load for. I guess I am just the opposite of the naysayers.

I like the round, personally, and the house AR is so chambered. You can run 125's up to 2400 fps, which turns it into an M1 carbine on steroids - Same magazines as the 5.56, and the same bolt too, it you are building a gun.

I'm pretty unimpressed with the subsonic Matchkings on game. I have heard good things about the LeHigh defense bullets, however.

To each his own properly loaded it works fine on deer within its range. I have a RARR and it is unbelievably accurate little three shot holes it is like shooting a 22 I can load. I would not hesitate to shoot a deer with it the outcome will be a known it will be dead. I do not care about sub only shoot super sonic the hornady 125gr sst do great damage and are still expanding when they exit for a good hole and blood trailing. The 110gr Barns does great but are done before they exit leaving a dead deer but less blood on the ground. Like a 22 I love hunting squirrels with it only downside is I have to wear ear plugs. Widow. PS it will never replace my beloved 7mm08 for big game.

I have had a couple, a CVA Hunter single shot, and a Ruger American bolt. I killed two deer with them, a couple of coyotes, and a few pigs. I found the 110gr Sierra Varminter to be a reliable killer on just about anything I shot. The benefit of the botl and single shot is that you can load anything subsonic and not worry about cycling issues. I killed a couple of pigs with a subsonic 180gr RN Winchester Silvertip bullet, and it worked pretty good, and did expand.

All that said, I have neither...and doubt I will own another. They don't do anything I can't do with a .223 or a .308, and can't do an awful lot those two cartridges can.

Have a buddy that owns one. Can and all. Very quiet to shoot. Some how it represents a 500yd cartridge to him since its in an AR and looks cool. When I got home after a few shots I pulled down the numbers on the Hodgden web site. Its a slow (or Supper Slow) 30-30 depending on how its reloaded.......... Ive never considered my Marlin as a 500 yd anything. But Now I may have to reconsider

I used to only shoot shotguns and rimfires, then I made the mistake of getting a subscription to handloader.......
