I'd love to have one but not at that price.

As I've said in some other posts in regards to MRC. Buy their bare stainless action, buy a Shilen barrel in your choice of contour and chamber, buy a McMillan Edge stock and find a local gunsmith to put it all together. You'd probably be right at $2K and have the best of everything.

Being a retired gunsmith I have always had custom rifles. This all changed when I lost the vision in my right eye. Been on a quest to find the best rifle for me in left hand and at a reasonable price as most retired gunsmiths are known to be not to flush. Tikka 7mag I like plus a Savage in 308 for pigs and a Ruger Hawkeye in 7-08. Ruger was a fantastic shooter but I sold it and got a Christensen Mesa in 7-08 and have not looked back. Very accurate and a real good shooter. Not the lightest but a well made rifle.

A Cooper in 25-06 or 257 Weatherby would be nice, not sure if they have a lighter option now but the heft would be fine for antelope and most deer hunting. The weight would be close to a MRC action-ed rifle. Need to look at the Christensen. A Weitherby light weight would be nice too but I wish they would re-introduce the Classic Mark with the Dakota inspired stock.

The Yukon is $6,995. The others start at $5,995. Wow, that's unfortunate.. That's an outrageous amount of money for any modern rifle. Thanks for the follow up, OSU, much appreciated.

You could talk me out of my ULA .257 WBY, but it would be a ways north of $2k.

I'd probably go 257 UL and be willing to fiddle with it..... If needed. Otherwise buy once and cry once= LH 25-06 NULA This would also tempt me ALOT: https://www.gunbroker.com/item/795017179

Agree on each point.
What give me pause about the 257 WBY is wind at distance, but that is still very much on my radar and I’m probably overthinking the impact of wind. At under 300 yards wind is probably not a rate limiting factor, but at greater distances I’m thinking wind could be problematic (but I am very careful with the shots I take). I know I’m going to be chasing accuracy (as we all do) and have no experience with their “newer” stock and trigger, but I don’t hear bad things. The 257 WBY comes in at 6.75 pounds without rings / scope.
The Cooper Backcountry on gunbroker……..yes....... I’ve been eyeballing that one more than I should. I self-imposed a 2K restriction, but... buy once / cry once (same as with bino’s, a thing I very much understand).
The new MRC rifle looks really nice on paper but their QC reputation precedes them. Heck, they can’t even get the price right on their website. I know that’s petty, but details are important to me.
What I want to do (if possible) is buy ONE high quality “do it all” rifle for non-dangerous game smaller than Elk, and the 257 Weatherby Mag seems to fit the bill (then again so does a 6.5 PRC).
As of today, I’m thinking that I’ll wait and see if any new lefty rifles come out of the SHOT show, and make a call pending that.
