Only two good westerns of what I'd call recent years that I can think of, one was Open Range, the other was the remake of True Grit, both excellent. Part of it is changing times, but part of the reason and nature of that change is due to Hollywood and leftist "values". The same character traits and themes from westerns are also much less scene in any more modern type of movies.
