60gr of Reloader 22 under a Nosler 130 AB in my Ruger #1B. Loads average about 3160 out of the 26" barrel, and accuracy is excellent. Start a couple grains lower, and work up.

I do want to try both R23 and R26 in it, as well.

RL22 is a top powder and shot excellent with great velocity with 130s. It'd be one of the first powders I tried. Ramshot Hunter did well for me too.

My Tikka likes 61g of H4831 and either 130g Interlocks or Partitions. Velocity is right at 3100fps. Hornady shoot into a dime and the Partitions into a nickel. Couldn’t get accubonds to do better than moa. Don’t feel motivated to look much further for a dandy deer load.

Sounds like a good load.

Decide what velocity you want to strive for first. From what I have read, the .270 was originally loaded to about 3160 fps (with 130 grain bullets), then for several decades loaded to less than 3000 fps, and now upped to about 3060 fps. All this from a 24 inch barrel.

If you want to go to 3160 fps, then RL16 seems a good choice.

For 3060 fps, I am using Hodgdon Hybrid 100.

If you are happy with 2990 fps, then IMR4350 is as good as any.

From another post I started:

With 130 grain Sierra Game Kings, W-W cases, and Tula large rifle primers, OAL of 3.255", and from a 24 inch barrel. I got these results.

51.0/2877

51.5/2911

52.0/2965

52.5/2977

53.0/2999

53.5/3021

54.0/3045

54.5/3088

55.0/3099

55.5/3129

56.0/3167

Pressure seemed okay until the 56.0 load when one of the three cases produced a little difficult bolt lift. accuracy was good with all the loads.

RL16

With 130 grain Sierra Game Kings, R-P cases, and Tula large rifle primers, and OAL of 3.255" I got these results.

50.0/2856

50.5/2903

51.0/2924

51.5/2977

52.0/3003

52.5/3025

53.0/3057

53.5/3090

54.0/3103

54.5/3146

55.0/3196

55.5/3223

postoak,
What's your barrel length?

I use 60.0 grains H-4831 with a 130 grain Swift A-Frame with a average velocity of 3130fps from a 22" barrel. The same powder and weight with a 130 grain Trophy Bonded Tip has the average velocity of 3070 fps from the same barrel length.

57gr RL-22 under 150gr partitions has been good in several 270's for me, I always use CCI-250 primers and WW brass, velocities run 29-2950, col's vary with throat/rifle mag box length, have always seated bullets to max, guessing it's the hardest and fastest killing white tail load I've ever used, most drop, those that ran never went out of sight.

Hey there elk hunter. Since i have lot's of H-4831 That's what I will start with. I have ordered some Barnes .277 129gr LRX bullets. These Barnes bullets in my 6.5's have given me complete penetration on elk over the years .Always deadly accurate & never failed me. They should also be devastating in the 270. My rifle has a 24" Bbl. so maybe 70 or so more FPS ( 35 fps per inch ) over a 22". Will see. I can chronograph now but my range is covered with about 30" of snow. That'a just part of leaving at 7630' elevation.
I can't thank all of you enough for your help. . This is my first 270 so you info, all of it is invaluable.

Pre-64 Win m70. 270 Win

Just under max load Accurate 3100 + 150 grain Hornady flatbase.

Produced 5 shot groups at 200 (two hundred) yards that would be covered by a US quarter.

In my Rem 700CDL with 24" bbl, I use 60.5gns RL26 and a 140gn Nosler Accubond for a 15 shot average of 3102fps. I've also used near max loads of H1000, W760, W780Supreme, RL17, RL19, RL22, H4350 and H4831sc but RL26 gave the greatest velocity but around 100fps. RL22 and W780 Supreme were the best of the rest.

58gr of H4831, Hornandy Brass (hate it), CCI LR Primer, 150gr Sierra Game King. AVG MV 3006 fps, 24bbl Remington 700. Shoots AVG groups just under and inch @100 yards

Shot an 8point this year at 50 yards and almost blew him in half. Total bullet failure (bullet selection failure). A man in a stetson could have stuck his head in the exit wound and not dirtied his hat.

Even played with some 110s.

I also ran IMR4350. However, I used it for both 130's and 150's...

This was shot from a featherweight rifle. It shot around moa consistently for 5 shot groups:

RL26 also worked exceptionally well with the 150gr. Nosler partition...

As per Jack O’Connor and tested in the Oct/Nov issue of Handloader,

49.5 gr of IMR 4064 with any 130 grain bullet with a COAL of 3.250”.. will give a velocity of close to 3000 FPS with awesome accuracy and mild recoil.

This has become my favorite truck gun load.

Todd
