GT was 133 and was Airborne Infantry. I don't think they had a Ranger option back then. There might have been the 1st Battalion, maybe not? I remember when they opened the 2d Battalion for sure. I was young, dumb, full of.... and knew absolutely nothing; went in totally blind.

79S, I never saw very low GT scores in the Infantry units I was in, and I was in a few. But heck, in the early 70's if you could walk upright and eat with a knife and fork you were officer material.

This was 1977. Only the 1/75th back then. They activated it in 1974. I didn't go that route.

I joined in 1973 @ 17. I didn't think there was a Ranger Battalion back then.

79S Well I must have had a whale of a CO score because I was 11B4P primary and 11C4X secondary. When I made E-6 they gave me 11C as a secondary and all of my friends, fellow 11B's were getting all of these diverse techincal secondaries. Notice the X. I was drafted as a drill sergeant too.

ETA: Of course it may be because I am only 96% human; acording to 23&me I am 4% Neanderthal. My friends all think that should be reversed LOL!

In the mid-60s it was pretty hard to fail any test , physical or mental. They'd send you to basic where they had 54 days to decide what to do with you. If they kept you more than 54 days they had to give you benefits like the GI Bill, even if they decided later to kick you out.

This sh_t never not cracks me up. Funny how everyone is the brightest bulb in the pack. Second recruiters don't give a sh_t what you score. Matter of fact they rather you score low. The hardest jobs to fill aren't the ones requiring a brain! As for not passing the ASVAB the first time that is BullSh_t, recruiters will give you study sessions. They're career depends on making quota's they are there to get you ready whether it is PT, ASVAB, or getting you waivers. Good recruiters don't lie. They simply tell you the most abbreviated answer possible. Like do I have to live in the barracks? No. That isn't a lie, it's just not a complete answer.

To the OP My suggestion is have your son figure out what he is interested in doing. Once that is figured out you can start to ask pointed questions from fella's on here that may have held that MOS. Have your son think outside the box. When I joined all I knew was I wanted to be a Marine since I was five years old and saw them Marching in the Memorial Day Parade in my town. I got lucky and had a recruiter that actually cared about his recruits. Unlike everyone else on here, I scored slightly above average. Good enough to pick some MOS's outside of infantry and cooks! When my recruiter asked me what I wanted to do in the Marines I said just be a Marine. He said no you want to get into an MOS that has value outside of the Corps. He told me I should think about aviation. So I said cool I'll do that. Maybe he needed to fill a quota? either way it was a great thing for me. But there are some really cool jobs these days like dog handler, cyber whatever, and things that kids these days are into. By the way there is money to be made now a days for grunts outside the military. So keep all options open.

74 QT/ asvab score
121 GT/ averaging of your line/job scores

Stoned outta my mind at the fed building for the test in Bangor Maine
June 1983.

Was a recruiter/ detailed slave for 3yrs. 98 -01

In Bangor Maine of all places....

Recruiting duty fugging sucks
Like being a released prisoner from shawshank redemption

Was very succesful at it
Sold the fugg outta combat arms jobs
Didnt play wishy washy games with little nuggs either.

Never put a split tail in my army
Stayed the fugg away from that drama dealing with them.

Kid can answer these 2 questions without hesitation
They are a fugging genius

Whats the square root of 49 or 81
And
What's the meaning of the word chaos in your own definition.

Answer those 2 you gonna get offered alot of jobs.

If they can answer chaos other than saying "my life"
They can pass probably and get offered jobs in their appitude.

I put my daughter nicole on the prediction test one day when she was in 3rd grade

She got a 23

Need a 31 with high school diploma to enlist in army as a "B"
50 as a "A"

I have seen college grads score single digits and high teens.

That tried.........

If he has a BS I dam surely hope he isn't going enlisted. I would hope he scored well, having a BS. The test was designed around 10th grade education.

Probably on the Wunderlich test. That would equate to an IQ of 72.

GT score above 110 allowed me to take the OCT (Officer Candidate Test) once I got out of AIT. I scored 125 on the OCT and went to OCS. Coming up on the 40th anniversary of graduating from OCS and getting my commission.

Now they don't even give the OCT. They just use the GT.

Did away with CWST requirement also in rotc.
So more black rockfish could commission.
Then the guard did away with 110 Gt for their rotc contractees.
Then did away with fort lewis,s program of summer camp entirely
Moved it to Knox and did away the 6 tactical evals in the feild for 2 weeks.

Soft serve ice cream for alot of em
But not all.

I spent a summer in 07 at Lewis before it disappeared
Grading sqd stx lanes.
You wouldnt beleive some of the schitt I seen
Hahaha!!!
If you gave a cadet a unsatisfactory eval.
You was the one going in front of the camp commander to explain
It to them 3 ltc,s and a full bird trying to get you to change the rating to satisfactory
I went up 6 times that summer
Would not budge on my evals,
Cadets were piggy backed into another regiment after graduating to do their "eval" again
I was sent to the TOC as NCOIC night shift my last 2 weeks.
" cause they needed someone at night to make sure it was run correct"
They wanted meanie off the lanes.
It happened to about 5 of us during the summer
Sent to other summer camp duties.

TFF.
I wasnt walking from 530am to sundown doing 6 2hr evals each day 6 days a week.

What a punishment
TOC
Chubby treats
Music
Internet access.

Lmfao!!!
