Wonder if lowering the price on hog hunts would make a difference? Bingo. Thank God no hogs here, but would LOVE to blast one or two. Places in surrounding areas here are asking ridiculous fees. I understand the liability and all that but it's damn near the same price as a deer hunt. Butchering fees,c'mon man. $100. I'll shoot the pig and drag it off your property and do it all myself. i have a buddy that charges that on his place.

I’d rather have the hogs than new peoples coming here.

Obammy pretty much defunded USDA APHIS... (Wildlife damage control)
I wonder if Trump has revitalized their budget? there is that. if locals were allowed to authorize their own animal control within their perimeters, and paid for locally might be a start? those who don't want hogs could provide assistance toward their control. different groups could combine interests & forces to effect positive change. what we seem to have here is that everyone is crying but noone has a solution. local control is just that. it's a local control of an issue that needs controlling. private sector entreprenuers can play an important role. they should participate.

There ain’t near the hogs here in the creekbottom we had 5 years ago. No acorns or pecans ? Plenty of both. Berdoll has a 50 acre (or more) pecan orchard I can see from my front door. Not counting the all the native trees and old stand bottoms. I think they do a pretty good job on the pig control tho. Prolly Barry’s comment rings more true. They just stopped coming around. I was always trapping shoats. Havent trapped any since 2014 here on the place. Son still has em. But not like I’ve seen em in the past.

You’ll have to bring your ole smokepole up here sometime and kill some!

Son love the hogs to come thru and clean out the post oak acorns when there is a big crop. Keeps the cows from picking up too many.

I hate the situation that Texas finds itself in, but I have killed so many of the damned things that I really have no desire to ever shoot another one. The thought of paying money to kill one will never enter my head.
So far, they seem to have adapted to and/or become immune to just about anything that might kill enough of them to make a difference at the population level. Trapping and shooting seems to be the most efficient means of removal, but from a population standpoint, they are winning that competition as well.
I don't pretend to know the answer, but I hope it surfaces somewhere, somehow--and soon.

A few years ago I offered poor boy hog hunts in the Classifieds here on this forum with Rickbin blessing. I about wore my PM message board out answering stupid questions that were answered in the ad. I wasn’t going to make a dime from it....just pay the Landowner and pay for the corn. It was, I think, 450 bucks for a party of three for three days with return priveliges if you didn’t get at least one hog.
Never got the first deposit of a hundred bucks.
I only offered it because of reading posts just like the ones on this thread.
Never again. My ad clearly stated that there was no guarantee you would even get a shot at a hog. That can happen to you on the high fence places where they buy and release hogs.
I’m reasonably certain that I could leave the house right now and have a hog killed by sundown and that’s with no feeders going. But I wouldn’t bet a hundred dollars on it. My FIL said it best..” a hog is just like a Nigra, he’s as well off one place as another.”
Never holler whoa or look back in a tight place
