Why would it cost three people $450 to shoot pigs?
Why would a landowner allow dimwits he doesn't know to roam around his land for free? I don’t know. Outside of Texas they’ve been letting this dimwit, his friends and family do it for a couple decades. All I’ve ever been told is “thanks for coming out.” Never been charged a dime. I am NOT being argumentative, but if you conduct yourself in person the way you do here sometimes (especially the foul language) you'd be gone from many of the places I've hunted immediately. Some LO's don't care, but lots of them I know do, especially with family around. I may be a TX landowner mentality, but that's the way it is, like it or not.
It is irrelevant what you think. What matters is the TRUTH.

I was just asking.
If they’re a problem why would you charge anybody anything? Just let them on and tell them where to go.
If you’ve paid for guides I don’t begrudge. Just asking why Texans charge for what appears to be a favor to the landowner. My neighbor, the Landowner, didn’t come to me bitching about the hogs on his place. Guys on this forum were bitching, just like now, about hog hunting costing too much. Most private land in Texas that has hogs also has deer and the deer hunters lease it year round in most cases around here. I damn sure wasn’t gonna let a bunch of guys I didn’t know hunt in the pastures I paid ten bucks an acre for hunting rights. That’s why I was offering them different pastures.

One time we happened t be eating lunch with the landowner of our mule deer place, with his wife and kids. We had two paying hunters there we were guiding from Ohio (lawyers) there too. After the third GD out of one of their mouths, the landowner escorted both of them and their gear to the gate. Thier hunt lasted just over half of one day.

That and they are leery of strangers and slob hunters on their property. They probably assume those who won't pay more likely fit the latter category.

That's what I was saying to begin with. They're not a problem for the vast majority of Texas landowners. Despite some claims that they are.

I'm just asking because I have hunted private land in North Carolina, Illinois, Montana, and Maryland with nothing more than a polite asking and a handshake. If the landowner drank I would leave cases of beer or booze on his porch unannounced. I never felt I was owed the privilege of hunting. I just find it odd that Texans are so uptight about everything.

That would be you most likely, thumbing your way back home because some TX landowner made you hit the road. Like Gringo said.......those that expect free hunting here are likely slob hunters.
BTW, that EXACT thing happened to Ted Nugent about 12 years ago on the neighboring ranch, a mere 120,000 acres. He booted Nugent off his property muy pronto due to foul mouth.

I should add that I did hunt pheasant for free up in the panhandle when I lived in TX. But there was a connection to that landowner. Friend of a friend and a group hunt type situation. But they didn't charge and were great hosts.

I still don't know what you're babbling about. No landowner has ever sent me thumbing my way anywhere. All they've ever done is invite me back. I have never expected anything from any landowner.

Been awhile since we have deer hunted in Texas and I remember LO telling us to stay away from circle and star in it as was a cyanide bomb for coyotes. Had a 1/2 mile long fence of hanging yotes. Something of the past? Would it work on Hogs? Outlawed?
If it ain't broke don't fix it!!!!!!!!!!!

Could it possibly be because I know a damn sight more about West Texas Landowners than you?

I knew you were just here to do a little trolling and threadkilling. Nice work. All I did was ask straightforward questions. You started babbling about some hunter that said GD once upon a time in front of a kid or some schit. Best I can tell my original point stands. Hogs are not a problem for the vast majority of Texas landowners.

I have been to TX 3 times pig hunting and really enjoy it. If any of you guys in TX need a partner for a week or so of hunting let me know. I can camp out in my truck and meet up with you guys. I am basically retired and with a few days notice could be down there. If you guys would need help with chores during the day I would be glad to help to earn my keep. I have plenty of 6.8 SPC 120gr SSTs loaded up and while I do not have a thermal. I do have a Sightmark Photon that does a decent job at night. Thanks
Bill
