Won a Stevens 200 on gunbroker for dirt cheap. I have no use for another 270 so the idea is to unscrew the barrel and put a new one on. What do you guys think? 22-250 8 twist or a wildcat of some sort?

.22-250, .22-257R, .22-244.....😀 I’d go 7 or 8 twist, throat for and shoot very long bullets. 6.5-06 or 6-06, two rounds that would better utilize the long action. Depends on what guns the OP already has and what he’s looking to accomplish. DF

A long action might not feed shorted cases correctly!!

That should put a crimp in about anything you’d shoot at. DF

A long action might not feed shorted cases correctly!! You can block the box, get a SA follower and spring. Or tweak it. I have a .257R on a LA 700 that feeds as slick as any bolt gun I have. A master smith set it up. DF

6.5-06 will feed slicker without work. Same ballistics. IIRC JB compared two Shaw rifles, one chambered in each round. Accuracy not enough difference to make a difference. DF
