I have picked up some over the counter Meclizine, it seems to be helping(?). A friends daughter gets it on and off with somewhat regularity. The Docs have told her that it might be a life long issue. They have taught her the early on set symptoms and what steps to take until it passes. I sure hope that's not the case for me. I'm self employed, if I don't work I don't get paid. Tndrbstr: Someone VERY close to me came down with "vertigo" and suffered with it for 2 full years! There are Doctors who specialize in this condition and can directly ascertain what is causing it (there apparently are various causes!) and can begin treatment and rehab. Get to the Doctor. Wishing you a speedy recovery. Hold into the wind VarmintGuy

Yes have had bouts of it on occasion. I have used Bonine which seems to work about as good as what the doctor gave me. Positional vertigo, a over the counter drug brand name Bonine (Meclizine Hydrochloride) should help. ^^^^^^^^^THIS^^^^^^^^^^ Actually OTC strength Anti-Vert Mine came on suddenly, couldn't even walk called the MD and he said to use Bonine and see him in morning. He diagnosed labrinthitis probably viral and should clear up in a couple of days and it did but I did take the Bonine for two days. While Bonine usually works, to years ago while Elk hunting I got a case that wouldn't go away. After a month or so I ended up getting therapy to learn how to get my balance and learn to walk again. I still have balance problems. Might not have been vertigo, but felt like it.

It isn't always an inner ear issue. I had a violent case of it a few years back and was sent to a balance specialist. Turns out I had a pinched nerve in my neck, and he performed a few "chiropractor-like" adjustments that relieved the symptoms a lot immediately and then completely over the next few hours.
There are specialists for everything, including balance/vertigo. Find one in your area, or ask your GP for a referral.
