You could buy or build a house without central heat, AC and electricity , no internet, no WiFi, no washing machine too and live like 150 years ago - kind of like like birdie and suffer. But why would you? You guys have had your nutsacks in the water too long

Maybe I will suggest my 63 Scout? Laughing... I drove a 1960 Scout from Salt Lake City to San Diego one summer. I'd sure never do that again. I also wouldn't have another truck without A/C and an automatic trans. Northern Dave does great work but sheesh man, it's 2019 fer cry'n out loud. LMAO no hot water. And cup holders. We need a plethora of cup holders, Cup holders everywhere!

I love my '91 Toyota but I wouldn't drive it more than 200 miles at a time - and it would take some motivation for me to do that.
Just not a comfortable vehicle to put miles on - and its got A/C and auto

Perhaps Birdy will be along to suggest an 73 Schwinn.....solid axle with metal saddle bag water tanks... The eighties touring bicycles are the classics, and can be found on Craigslist in good shape for under $200. My '89 Schwinn has had one owner (me) and I've only put about $1,000 in components in it over the last five or six years.

Birdwatcher gonna recommend a Honda Monkey. i worked with a guy who prided himself on the fact that his only vehicle was an old vespa. rain, snow sleet or hail didn't stop him, wore a trench coat and giant boots. ate a lot of ritalin. we fired him.

I have a 2007 Hummer H3. Pretty happy. You can sleep in it if you aren't real tall. About 14 - 17 mpg, has held up well. Tranny at 173,000, a few age related things, coupla water pumps, fuel pump, brake discs...etc. The truck people love to hate. Obvious that some folks have never been in a rig that is both highway & mild offroad capable for a 24 - 32 hour stretch of driving , one way. Along with co drivers that are getting grumpier by the mile, Yourself included.
Some of the longest hours of a seemingly normal life & you want to drive...... what!
Maybe I dislike it more than most. If that kind of trip wasn't such a chore to me, I'd be there as we speak as I have a buddy out here right now..

Id like to find a 98 jeep GC that some old people left in a garage. Something around 50k miles. Six cyl w tiny lift. Would have the security system fault reset switch added.
Had to have that done on my 94. So far my 98 hasnt efd up. But its got 200k on it so anything could happen. Bought it w rebuilt transmission from jeep dealer. So that should be ok. Just put new cv axles and wheel bearing units up front. Should pull deer out of the woods fine. But wouldnt risk it on long hunting trips.

Toyota, buy A new one. The used market on them is way to high. I just bought A base model four wheel drive for 24,000 drive the hell out of it and sell for inflated price.

Talk about the Zenith. I'm a 6.0 Fanboy, and if he asked about something to haul tools, pull trailers or carry 6 crackers to the job site I'd agree. For the OP's use, I gotta go Toyota. If Im ever forced to stop getting up every morning and going to work, the only truck in the drive will be a Toyota, likely with a winch bumper and at minimum a rear diff locker.

Going to a carwash to blast off your undercarriage and wheel wells from frozen slush salt sand schit once a month or so in the frozen
Northern waste lands is possible...
That along with some undercoating ( even Wally world spray on schit)
Usually staves off the cancer a little longer....
I ain't seen wooden bed pick ups in awhile like back in the days growing up in maine.
Still gotta be trucks rolling like that in the frozen northern wastelands.

One "new" thing that is nice, even on a 4x4 that isn't a primary vehicle, is a backup camera. Sure makes hooking up to a trailer easier. Let's you get closer to drop-offs / holes and such when maneuvering in tight quarters also. Cameras started becoming common on mid-grade trim levels around 2010-2011 or so. I liked my back up camera on the 2015 Tundra so much I added one up front and got the FRAC (front, rear, anytime camera wiring harness), on those few days I let the wife drive it, she was parking half way into the space, short heifer that she is, so she can throw the switch and see the front bumper, plus I can check the trailer whilst underway, nice little addition.

Toyota vs Chevy.
Just like Honda vs Polaris.
Toyota and Honda are solid machines.
And about a pleasant to ride-drive as a steel wheel tractor in road gear.
Chevy-Polaris........smooth as a Cadillac......but higher maintenance.
Toyota sure seems to make a reliable pickup......for midgets.
