Erdogan likes Russia's S-400 air defense system better than the F-35.

They can probably buy SU-57's for a fraction of the price of the F-35, anyway.

They are claiming that operating the F-35 alongside the S-400 would allow Moscow to learn its secrets.

Yeah,...something like that. More than anything, I think that it's just the fact that a NATO country is choosing to buy Russian armaments.

Trump explained a bit ago on tv today how they werent allowed by previo u s admin to buy our Patriot missiles so they bought the lesser quality from Russia. Now because of some rule they arent allowed to buy over 100 F-35s.

He said they are working to see what can be done.

I don't see that as a bad thing, and I don't see them as an ally.

The U.S. laid a major egg when it started arming Kurds. The Kurds and Turks are blood enemies. It's difficult to maintain an alliance when you're arming their enemies.

On the other hand, Turkey gets along well with Iran and Russia.

The insane U.S. foreign policy in the Middle East put Erdogan on the spot.

Plus 1. Even though I have had the opportunity to fly through Turkey on some destinations, I have avoided them. I found most of the Turks I have met to be a less then friendly bunch that I would be hard pressed to trust.

Erdogan is a power hungry dictator that wants to crush any opposition with any force he has at hand or can muster. He showed that on his last visit to the States when he had his henchmen attack protesters.

If they had both the plane and the air defense system radar they could pretty much extensively study the plane's reflective signature, however small, and distribute the results to whomever.

The Turks used to be afraid of the Soviets. Not so much any more. One just has to wonder, however, do those S-400s have a kill switch?

While initially a secret agreement, it is now common knowledge that the United States stores tactical nuclear weapons in several European countries under what is known as "nuclear sharing." Currently, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Belgium and Turkey host U.S. tactical nuclear weapons on their soil.

Sell Turkey an F35 and it will be in Russia within months, if not weeks.

Yep. Turkey moved a substantial way towards another Muslim stronghold when the attempted coup failed a couple years ago as the usual attempt to return Turkey to secularism. The following purge in their (very pro-western) military has pretty much set Turkey back a few decades. Shame, I've spent a lot of time there and found it to be filled with very nice people who just want the best for their families.

Ataturk would be ashamed of what it has become.

Understatement ! Not only is he Muslim Brotherhood and has ambitions of uniting the Muslim world under his leadership he is currently encroaching on the territorial waters of Cyprus and Greece drilling wells to steal their gas and oil. His need for Russian S-400’s is to have functioning air defense when he goes to war with Greece and Cyprus. Cyprus and Israel are jointly developing the gas and oil fields so this is double risk of war. Turkey really is on the way out of NATO and likely on the path to war with NATO. Erdogan is a megalomaniac in the same vein as Saddam Hussein was. His megalomania will lead him to the same type of miscalculations that Saddam made that lead to a war he had no chance of winning. A war with us. Same with Erdogan.
