I'm from the same area (Skagit for me, I think you're a little farther south?) and share your opinion of the standard 6x and 10x. Good tough scope, great reticle, but I sure don't love the glass, especially in the cloudy evenings when it's kinda damp and gloomy here on the wet side.

The standard classics may not have the brightest glass, but their resolution is extremely good, and the ability to handle adverse atmospheric conditions is phenomenal.

How about a Super Sniper in 8x with a low profile elevation and capped windage? that would be the shizzle Leupold used to make a 7.5x and an 8x... they were both great scopes. Iβd love a fixed 8 as you described.... especially with the 6x style MQ in it.... or even a straight mil-dot. If I went the fixed route S&B would be a must. the camera land exclusive is pretty nice. Fred I know Pat (scenar) loves the 10x S&B and it must be tough to hold up to his abuse. Is that camera land special a 6X? I just have a hard time wrapping my head around the $2500 price tag The 6x PMII is a fair bit less than $2500 if that's the one you were referring to(?). I think Fred linked to it. I've used one for a while now and REALLY like it...but I'm a fixed 6 junkie.....

Concerning the Schmidt & Bender 6x42 and 10x42 that are on Camera Land's website, I am assuming the "FFP" in the titles refer to First Focal Plane, but these are fixed power scopes.
Am I missing something?

No - youβre reading it as advertised, and they are fixed power.
S&B refers to these scopes as βFirst Focal Planeβ in their catalogs and in the scope book with the scope.
If the recticle is positioned in the scope ahead of the magnification, whether it moves or not, the scope would βtechnicallyβ be first focal plane, though most of us wouldnβt call it that.

My bad Jud, I was talking 6x. I was surprised to see the $1867 price as that's lower than they were initially going for.
I'm not sure if there is some pro/con on FFP in a fixed (or variable) power scope related to something besides reticle size......

Gotcha. That makes sense. Thanks for that.
