Loved to lay in the grass as a kid in the Summers in Oregon. Then moved to Oklahoma. Learned real quick you couldn't do that or you'd get gigantic itching welts on your sack or under your underwear band. WTF?
They're proof God has a sense of humor.
Moved back to Oregon and never missed having those bastards.

Clear fingernail polish will quiet them. That actually does nothing since the bug aren't there. They bite, feed, and drop off. The sores and itching are a reaction to the bites.
One shot, one kill........ It saves a lot of ammo!

Never had them. I don't think they are around here, I have heard people talk about how bad they are, but never had anyone tell me they got into them around here.
And I'm ok with that!
Parents who say they have good kids..Usually don't!

Bleach or fingernail polish et al does no good. OLD WIVES tale. After you are bitten, use Tea Tree Oil on the affected area 2-3 times a day... it is the only thing I have found that works 100% of the time. Cuts recovery from 2 weeks to 1-2 days.

Disagree about the bleach. When I have been in the scrub all day, come home and put 2 caps full of bleach in a bath. You will have a slight smell but it gets rid of the little buggers. Have to do it right away though. Do not wait till bed time.
Some mornings, it just does not feel worth it to chew through the straps!~

By the time it starts to itch, the chigger is long gone. After extensive experience with them, the best prevention in my Army days was to wear all leather boots and keep the pants tucked in. They would crawl right through jungle boots. Have also tried all the home remedies and actually found one that works. Extra strength Clearasil medicated acne pads. Not a magical remedy, but cleared up the itchy bites faster than anything else.

Chiggers are the devil bug. When you think you may encounter them bug spray works but spandex treated in pymethrin is 100%. 40 or more welts will keep you awake for a while. Tea tree oil works to some extent although the odor is repugnant. Interesting read below learn the places to avoid and cover up and wash up immediately after getting out of the areas they are prevalent. http://entoweb.okstate.edu/ddd/insects/chiggers.htmGood luck and shoot straight y'all
