They just appear to be oblong, because they are drilled on a radius instead of a flat surface.

unless they have some special oblong drill bits and specialty taps.

No problem, can put a square screw in an oblong hole. Its the curved holes that bother me, hard to find those flexible screws.

You might have to go with left handed screws, depending on the rotation of the curve...

Are they truly oval shaped or are they just chamfered for ease of starting the screw and because of that, they look oval. If a correct-sized screw threads in with no resistance, the hole is not oval.

Oval at surface only... Just below that, the holes are D/T just fine... But it sure looks like crap to me.... And no other BACO I've had in the shop exhibits that anomaly..

Oblong holes? Meh. Just use a bigger hammer to install the screws.

They must have used a countersink to deburr the hole.

where the bolt would go, on the opposite side of the action, what is that big hole where you are seeing daylight?

non of my Model 70s have that on them, that I recall....

That's where the bolt release goes, but the action is completely disassembled, probably getting a a new barrel.........

Okay, This a long thread, so here goes.
You are going to turn that action into a really cool rifle.
Looks like there is some work that needs to get done.

Wishing you the best with this one.

Considering the holes are drilled through a curved surface, they look round to me.

Long thread.
But dam.....you drill on a curved surface and when they buffed it the sides are thinner and cuts quicker.

So it looks wider.

What’s the fuss about?

Makes no difference if you use the hole.
