Are you folks able to salvage any of that wheat that got laid down? I've always wondered.

Not rain, usually wind I seem to recall, used to screw with the fields in E WA. Seems they used to be able to get some of it.

Hope you're still going to do well overall. Fat calves from the green grass at least.

I had 6 people in the one meeting I had yesterday. Took an hour to get there through hi way work zones and frequent stops. Compared to the east coast rat race you are a lucky man Sam. And we should all thank you and the other ranchers and farmers that provide for this country. My dad used to ride and had a couple horses, and thought any day on horseback was a good day. You work harder than most here I am sure but damn what a view.

Geno, we had a prolonged rainy stretch and got about 4" over 4-5 days. Right when the wheat was ready to cut....

The main issue we have is that the quality of the grain deteriorated. Some of it sprouted and a bunch of it bleached out. It went from food to feed so to speak.

Best yield we've ever had(50-80 bushel) but lowest price that I can remember. With the current discount we lost around $1.20/bushel, roughly $70/acre, overall $50-60k hit.....ouch!

But luckily we are small wheat farmers and don't have a lot of overhead. Some of the big guys have thousands of acres left to cut and they might be hurting.

Blu, it took three of us 3 days to gather that pasture and I know we missed a few. 16k acres inside one fence, federal land of course, not my personal rancho!

Mike, it's about a 80 mile drive from home. Yesterday we put on about 15 miles on two track trails pulling the horse trailers. Damn near didn't make it through a couple soft spots.

That far out in the hills you truly appreciate a good pickup and horses!

Sam, I'm glad you, and the other folks are raising wheat, and I do not.

Does the pony have his winter coat already, or does he just have wiry hair year 'round?

Well Sam, I say if it was easy to pay for land, everybody would own a few thousand acres. Some days you get the bear, some days the bear gets you.

Sam, thanks for the info on your crop and losses. That sucks YUGE balls. Having that kind of yield, which is more than average for the better areas of the Palouse and then having it degrade bites big blue weinies. Or maybe it's weenies.

Hope the winter is easy on you folks now, good comes after not so good, right?

As a lifelong Easterner living in the mountains of NY I'm always in awe of the big blue skies out west. You have a great "office" Sam.

Ethan and Dakota, he is furred up pretty good ain't he? I noticed that myself.

Probably be a bad winter on the way!

Richard, it's farming, you know how it goes........

C, we are about 150 miles north of Miles City. One of my favorite drives in the entire state. Make it down there once a year or so.

Geno, two years ago we had about a 5-8 bushel average and it was so dry a bunch of wheat didn't sprout outta the ground until this time of the year.

Quite a transition regarding moisture.

River, it's Big Sky country!

One Saturday I took a walk to Montana

I met a horse there

And he almost knocked me dead

(Punk rock horse) Please look at me
(Punk rock horse) What do you see?

Let's travel round the world
Just you and me, punk rock horse

Apologies to the Dead Milkmen.

Geno

C, he not overly tall, maybe 14-15 hands(?) but he's has a fairly stout frame.

Geno, you're trippin' me out man!

Odin, I have heard of them and watched a couple youtube vids last winter. They farm a lot of acres and do some pretty neat restoration work to older equipment.
