Model 70 Featherweight for me, too. Not even close, really.
There should be one coming out soon in 6.5 Creedmoor, as well, that will be twisted at 1-8” so you’d have the best of all worlds. Yep ... any day now! They were announced at SHOT January of ‘18 and have yet to land. There is slow roll, and then there is shipping from Portugal via zero emission barge piloted by Greta ...

Elliot,
For what your intended uses appear to be, both are fine rifles, assuming that you've narrowed it down to those two, in .243. There are other cartridges out there that similarly would fit your intended use, and other manufacturers, that would work equally well. Of the two you've mentioned, I prefer the Winchesters; I have two Featherweights, and they are accurate, good looking, and fit me well. That last part is important. Regardless of what others state about these rifles, I strongly urge you to find a gunstore that has both, then look at them side by side. It is likely that one of them will speak to you more than the other, then you've got your Huckleberry. There's simply no substitute for holding each one in your hands before you decide.

Remington Model 700..............and it ain't even close. I've owned several in 243, and have yet to have one that was not accurate. If you're wanting a rifle to look at, buy the Winchester. If you're wanting one to hunt with and shoot, buy the Remington.

You fhuqking Droolers are HILARIOUS! Now Emotions are more important than Mechanics? Hint. Congratulations?!? Winchester has yet,to make a stock worth a fhuqk...whether Pre,Post or Transition. This "might" be a 70 Featherweight. Hint. You KNOW they suck, when a fhuqking HTG is a SERIOUS upgrade. Hint. The CRPF 'Yote Whizzum Laminate(7mm here),being their best attempt to date. Hint. Bless your heart for trying though. Hint. LAUGHING!................. James', Knowed mechanics and dot connections,do tend to be warm and fhuqking fuzzy...................(grin) tzone, Where's them 280 FWT/Federal Fodder Porn Pics? I'm VERY "surprised",that you don't dangle that Goat Fhuqk, for even more Oblivious Humor. Hint. Congratulations?!? Only "move" you had. Hint. Bless your heart. Hint. LAUGHING!................. Elliot, Purty mean of you,to tease her in sucha' manner. Hint. I like how you roll. LAUGHING!.....................

It will have more, but not enough to worry about if you keep the bullet weight down. You mentioned wanting to shoot more on the range, and 243's eat barrels faster than the 6.5 Creedmoor.

Thank Daveman, yes I guess that would be my last test to hold them and have a feel about them. Can you tell me what other cartige are like a .243 ? To be honest I want the .243 for the low recoil. Thanks.

If you've been thinking 243 but would like something more modern then consider the 6mm Creedmoor. It's not yet ubiquitous like the 6.5 version though.

Buy the .243 in the Featherweight and use it. As far as burning out a barrel,so what,re-barrel it to something else when the time comes.

Hi Jpro, not a handloader, I am new to all this stuff, guns, rifles, ammo. The only reason why I chose a 243 caliber is because I know it has little recoil. I looked at the bullet you told me the 6.5 Creedmoor but I also seen they have a 6 mm... oh no , another decision that will prolong my rifle buying lol

Buy what you like IMO, they are both decent rifles. A 1:10 twist isnt ideal anymore, but it won't hinder you from killing deer sized game and smaller. I like the M70 rifles a little better than M700 rifles, but I have a few examples of both in my safe.

Truthfully, would get the 6.5 over the .243, especially since you don’t reload. but the choice is yours.
