This is VERY interesting. I would have thought that the 30/06 would have won this by a landslide.Either the 30/06 guys are shy, retiring types who don't want to express an opinion, or the 270 people are more avid voters, or SOMETHING! But, I suspect a lot of people have discovered that a 270 kicks less and shoots flatter than a 30/06, and kills as well on most of the stuff we hunt. Like Dobrenski says, the 30/06Improved is....a 270.

not the 270...but VERY close..the 280(7mm express)

I don't always venture out into the sub-freezing darkness, but when I do, it is deer hunting season, and I carry a Remington. Stay hungry my friends.

Probably the majority of 30-06 shooters have no interest in forums or discussions of interesting things like calibers their dad did not use.

StrayDog: You're most likely right. We know the 06 is the most popular out there among guys that just want to go hunting, and may,or may not be, rifle nuts. smile

1. .270 Winchester
2. .300 Winchester Magnum
3. .22-250

That's as of today, though -- tomorrow the .300 WM might be first.

When the 'Campfire Rifle' was voted the 300 WM was selected. Today its a different round.

To be frank I wish that all my 270's were 7mm's. The 270 Win is a superb round but I still favor the quicker twist that most 7mm tubes have. The only reason I even have (4) .277's is that I liked the rifles.
