Roy I inherited one of these from my uncle (same gun with 30" bbls choked tighter than a gnat's azz in both bbls and with a single trigger and auto ejectors). I think the "stars" are simply inexpensive decorations, cheaper than engraving, and they actually do look pretty decent. Wish I had the ability to post pics, but they are shown in a number of books on American doubles--a simple line stamping (I think). The stars on mine are somewhat larger on mine and not symmetrical--taller centers that horizontals.
Uncle Ray's gun is from around 1930, but he bought it in 1939 after it had sat in a shop in San Pedro CA waiting to sell. (The Depression depressed gun sales as well as everything else. He bought a brand new Colt Woodsman Target at the same time, and it had been sitting there since 1930. "Spendin' like a sailor", as they say, and at that point, he was one).

Is there some significance to the stars? I'm not familiar with them.
Had one of these same 16ga NID’s for a spell. The starred guns were later production years, otherwise no special meaning. They are pretty little American guns though, and well made, modern steel. The price is appropriate. Free bump.
Golldammed motion detector lights. A guy can’t even piss off his porch in peace any more.
