And where do I get the .277" VLD's? grin

Too bad the 7mm WSM did not get a fair start. I still like the 8400 WSM Montana's a lot.

The VLD quip is just a reference to an upcoming article by Mule Deer on using Berger VLD's on game. I mean of course that the the .277" bore has little choice in long bullets because of the twist.

In other words what bullet would you shoot with a 1-9 .277" that you could not shoot from a 1-10 twist?

My 2 (tied)all time favorites, the .30-30 and the .303 British. If forced to choose between them it would most likely be the .303.Heavier whomp for larger critters...Glad the only choice I'm forced to make is which one comes out of the cabinet for a walk!

I would have to say .35whelen ,8mm Remington mag ,7 STW &
the 6mm-06 are all that I will ever need

It is better to have it and not need it , than to
need it and not have it ( by master gunsmith & very wise friend )

I'm with you on this one. For deer, goats, and 'yotes.
Usually take an '06 for with 180s for elk or moose.
or for river bottom deer a 30-30.

If, by "favorite", you mean if I had a choice of ONLY one cartridge, it would have to be a .30/06 in a centerfire rifle even though I don't own one.

My reasoning for this is because I believe with the right bullet and hand-load, the .30/06 is capable to taking any big game in North America including the "big bears"... and doing it with a minimum of "fuss" and recoil.
