Was on another thread and got to really wondering about bullet choice for my .270. I am not a reloader so have been using federal premium in 130g for deer and shot a cow elk. I have been reading and hearing a lot about the hornady eld-x in 145g. I also wonder about federal premium in 150g. I guess I need to go shoot them all but just wondering from you guys with the ballistic brains and guys with personal hunting experience...is there really going to be a noticeable difference?? I am going bear hunting in the spring and want to be sure of accurate hard hitting round. thanks

I have been pleased with the Nosler Accubond in 140gr. Bear and deer have been exits and fast kills.

I don't plan on shooting past 600 yards so there's no need to look any further than the 130gr Federal Fusion for me.....

Great question. So many good choices out there it’s hard to pick one. 129 Barnes LRX and 145 Horn Eldx for me.
The new Edge TLR and Sierra Gamechanger plus the Nosler offers look good to.

I used a 270 win for over 30 years, both in lower 48 and Alaska. I started with 130 coreloks and once I began reloading went with 130 and 150 gr partitions. I couldn't tell the difference between the two in the field. 130 partitions killed moose as easily as 150s. I settled on the 150s for everything. If I were using a 270win these days I'd be shooting the 150 partitions. Ymmv.

I have been using Hornady Superformance in 130 GMX for everything from Deer to Moose and haven't recovered a bullet yet, including on a big bull. Great monometal bullet and accurate in my Mauser. Some people haven't had great accuracy with the Superformance, but it works well in my rifle.

I run Federal 150gr Nosler Partitions for everything, including moose and bears.
That's ok, I'll ass shoot a dink.

130 grain partitions and the Barnes 130 grain.
Have not needed another bullet weight to get the job done.

Lots of good 270 bullets out there. I like 150NP in mine, over RL26, about 3025fps or so. I love Accubond as well. My monometal experience isn't as good as some others have had, your mileage will vary.

I shot the superformance with another caliber. I didn't like it. Accuracy when sighting was ok at best and it didn't perform well on kills. Think was just too fast. Any thoughts on the eld-x 145g?

If I wasn't a reloader, I'd use Nosler's loaded ammo with the 150gr. Partition or the Federal version with the same bullet. It's my opinion that the 150gr Nosler Partition is as good as it gets for the .270 Winchester.

I am a reloader but for a friend who isn't we tested what shot best and settled on a 150 factory Federal. Came in handy as he used it to take a massive elan that wondered on to our lease.
If it can take an elan- it can take an elk.

I've shot a bunch of elk with a 270 using both Speer 150 gr Hotcores and 150 gr Partitions. 130's and 150's shoot to almost the same POI and the 150 hits a bit harder when it gets there. Either weight works, though. I didn't notice any particular difference in performance between the Speers and PTs. No elk ever survived either one. Both penetrated well and retained weight about the same. The Speer would squish more but still kept the weight.

I have zero experience with the ABLR , but standard Accubonds work very well.

Verg, With many disappointed people and my own tests with the ELD-X, I’d “not” use it......especially with bear. It may be adequate for deer, but, the heavier bone construction, dense muscle mass, long hair, and potentially a lot of fat.....your asking a lot of a relatively “fragile” bullet!
My choice would be a Barnes 130 TTSX, in the VOR TX brand. If you don’t care for the Barnes Bullets, find some factory loaded 150 grain Nosler Partitions! Eith one should be a great performer in your .270! memtb

Still loading the 130 gr Partitions. Haven’t seen a reason to change.

I’ve been using 150 grain bullets in the 270 for about 35 years. Last game taken with the 150 grain bullet was a buffalo in South Dakota. I’m partial to Nosler Partitions.

It’s hard to beat a 270 when it comes down to it. Lots of killing power for little recoil.
