While hunting Ruffed Grouse this fall in Wisconsin, I have encountered groups of Elk close to human activity. Ashland County, Chequamegon National Forest, trail head. Jackson County, Black River State Forest. HWY 54.

The wolves have even got the cougars running in adult groups out here. Now we got prides of lions.

It's cool to see elk in Wisconsin. I hope they make it and expand.
I doubt it with all those wolves running around.

We are accustomed to seeing large groups of cows moving and eating, but those are really bunched up rather tight. Is that normal in your area?

I don't have enough elk sightings here in Wisconsin to say it is normal or not. Go to Yellowstone, you will see the same elk behavior. And it’s driven by wolves, you are right on the money. Happens with deer here in NE MN along the north shore. Deer have learned they need to stay close to civilization to survive.

Its a brave and lucky Moose or Elk that wanders into a Reservation and survives. Also a pretty lucky yearling beef that makes it........ Maybe those collars are cyanide collars...........

That many vehicle impacts or just the wolves are used to the roads in TN.

With ongoing cow seasons here, they'd all be hammered is short order if within sight of a road. Looking at the collars, that should be a well documented bunch if those are monitoring units.

I doubt it with all those wolves running around. They've been around since late 90's. Not a large population but enough to see if you're in the woods enough. I've seen them in Ashland Co pretty regular and Sawyer Co about 3 times. We used to see them a few times a year in Ashland Co, while scouting for deer, or grouse hunting.
