I had a friend back in college (ancient history) who had one as a pet. It was death on large insects. One day it ran off and vanished. I guess we were out of cockroaches. frown

Cool animals.

They'll come to a predator distress call too. smile Not that I'd shoot one, but they can come in, in some pretty good numbers.

Yep. Had some come in when we were calling for foxes many years ago. Had never seen one before so I didn’t shoot them. Very raccoon like, IMO.

they leave you alone. I expect you'd be in for a surprise if you tried to pick one up. (same as a squirrel or a racoon)

They’re seem to be moving north just like the javalina. We saw one on the peaks in Flagstaff 5 years ago while hunting elk and a lady I work with had one in her yard that year, she got pics. Both were young males, they are roamers. Off chance it was the same animal but was on opposite sides of the mountain range. Have also seen pics of them from trail cams on Mingus mtn.

Raccoons and such are fur bearers, Coatis are nongame and have a limit of 1 per year bag limit. I wouldn't shoot one but know folks that have for a mount.

It sort of completed my uncle’s dope smoking, just quite too young to make the vietnam gig, hippie persona.
