We started feeding oat hay a couple day ago. The cows like it.

Good looking hay! I could use some about now. Or, rather my cows could.

Been feeding if for years, our cows love it. Don't seem to have any nitrate issues.
The oat heads will spoil them though, they often get picky and snub the stem!

The hard part is cutting it at the proper time.

As to the title, isn't that Buckwheat's signature line?

The hard part is cutting it at the proper time. That is the problem around here. When it is prime time cut, it starts the monsoons and you lose it all.Too early and it is not mature enough. Too late and it is heads and straw .Good feed if put up right though.
If God wanted you to walk and carry things on your back, He would not have invented stirrups and pack saddles
