On long action chamberings, how do the magazine lengths measure out on these two guns? In other words, are they long enough to properly handle higher BC bullets or not?

Tikka is about 3.35" usable as well.

If you want to shoot 180's and such, a 375 length action is needed (ie. 700 LA).

The Montucky,Fieldcraft and Teekers...are simply Long Action JOKES.

Hint..................

Stick,

If the I were to go with a 7mm-08 to run the 180 ELDs and the Fieldcraft is off the table are my only options custom actions like the Big Horn or Defiance actions?

What about rebarreling the Montucky 84L into a 7-08 to get the right COAL? How bout it?

Not Stick,
Rebarreling an 84L would work, though once you get through with it you’ll prob be close to custom rifle territory (unless it’s an 84L Hunter). The other (cheaper) way to go would be to pick up a Tikka in 7mm-08 and use a long action bolt stop and mag. The twist likely wont stabilize the 180s but will do great with the 162s. I’ll let Stick handle the ‘clueless chunts’ comments to follow.

You can squeeze a 180’d 7-08 into a Rem or clone short action using binderless AICS mags and a good DBM like an APA. Get you 2.95” OAL which is not a bad place to be.

'winds,

I rather like 84L ergo's and that greases skids. Hint.

If one were to 7-08 same,be thinkin' 180's and gave a thunk to keeping the start of the heel's taper a CH below neck/shoulder juncture,it'd prolly look like this. Hint.(grin)

I don't currently have any 7-08's wearing that much freebore, but it certainly wouldn't aspook me to build to a Dummy of that length,so as to place the Smooch. Barrels are cheap in my book and I go through more than a few of them, because they are both a consumable and that soooooooo very often,Manufacturer's are fhuqking CLUELESS with OEM wares. Hint.

I drive 180's ala binderless AICS DBM'd S/A 700's,in both 7-08 and 7-08AI. 2.950" is a breeze and often 2.975" is too. I can also Smooch 180's in 7 Whizzum 8400 Montucky's...both illustrated(162 to far left). I've ZERO qualm,in either/all approaches,but throat specs are obviously gonna be different. Hint.

The 84L 8" RPM Linda Lovelace 180 Launching Bitch, would not be difficult to add to the larder. I'd go 23" there, just because that's how I went on my Six Twat-Six 1-8" RPM Brux and it handles well. In OEM guise while straight Twat-Six,the 24" felt like schit.

Wayyyyy better at 22". Hint.

Shot Skinner magfed Smooches good 'nuff. Hint.

I like to dupe contour and lose some shank,on all of my Custom Montucky's and would certainly do so in 7-08. Hint.

She'd be a dirty GOOD Sleeper and wouldn't beatcha' up.
