I posted an ad on Armslist looking for AR parts. Nothing really specific just pieces to go with random pieces I have. Guy calls me and tells me he has everything I need, probably enough to build 8 or 9 guns. Sounds promising so me and ol’ widrahthaar jump in the truck and head over. We get there and he asks, “Are you strapped?” And I answer, “yeah” Thinking that he’s asking to make sure that we aren’t some dip [bleep] there just to stroke him. thinking that he’s asking to make sure that we aren’t some dip [bleep] there just to stroke himHe immediately asks us to put our guns in the truck which we declined and said we were leaving. He then asks us to just leave the magazines in the truck and I also refuse to do so and say thanks anyway I’m not coming in your house with a bunch of cash and leaving my gun in the truck.

He finally says that he doesn’t normally do this but fine come on in and we do. He just says that a lot of gun guys are weirdos and he doesn’t like letting people in his house with guns. Long story short he has a bin of old used parts, a couple of stripped uppers in a couple of stripped lowers and no parts kits.

I couldn’t have put one gun together with everything that he had there even if I was MacGyver.

I buy some random crap from him and we leave. Widrahthaar looks and me and says, “That guy is a fücking weirdo and he’s saying gun people are weirdos?!”

Well apparently some are, they just don’t know it.

There are all kinds out there.

One of my own rules of operation is that I shun anyone who expresses---intentionally or not---distrust toward me with no justification. I figure they distrust me because they assume other people think like they do, and therefore are untrustworthy themselves. Projection, in other words.

Armslist deals around here.
Very public place.

Unless names and address are highly visible known safe neighbor hood areas.

Lots of retired military around here.

Scored 2 .375 marlins for me and slumlord thru armslist.
Some retired warrant officer,s home we went too.
Turned into a show and tell session and made a local connection

Got in the old guy firearm buying and selling network with one of the long time workers at Midsouth shooters supply couple miles down the road.

You just gotta use common sense.

Janesville has a super low crime rate, 2 nice cars in the driveway, decent neighborhood. Zero red flags until then. Put my gun in the truck? Nukka please.

Funny thing is we just came from another gun deal in a very public place and the guy got super weird when I just pulled out my Colt in the middle of the parking lot…

I wouldn't even answer a question like that if I was carrying.

Honestly I thought he was qualifying us to make sure we were douchebags. I mean we’re douchebags but not jerkoffs.

I sold an AK to guy thru armslist.
Realized we knew each other from cheatham rifle range.
Talking and showing off guns out their.

Did the deal.
800 buck in my pocket
Ready to go.
Dude says wait.
Gives me a post 64 top eject win 94.
Says here its your, been an unfinished project of mine you can have it, seen your guns at the range you have refinished and worked on

Dude had it in his mind when we talked on the phone and found out we knew each other.
Retired cold war navy submarine guy.

Gave him a man hugg and thanks.
Brought the 94 back to life as a eastern carbine half tube kinda themed rifle.
Posted the project pics on here several yrs ago.

I have probably done 5 or 6 face to face armslist deals.

Havent had a bad experience yet to tell thr truth.

I think most that do are not careful about the warning signs from ads that are pretty obvious.
