I've got a side by side double barrel 12 gauge Riverside. It was my great grandfather's. Full choke in both barrels. It was said to have won many a turkey shoot. My great grandfather only ever killed one turkey and was with this shotgun. Story was he gave it both barrels. He said, " better half a turkey than no turkey".

My brother-in-law stole them before I got there. Haven’t had contact with him or my sister since.

Sad hearing a couple of posters talking about relatives snagging up guns.
And other things
Happens all the time.
I have no doubt the back story of some of the gems I have gotten over the years outta pawnshops are a result of this.

My dad, tho a hunter and trapper in rural NY State in his Depression-era youth, never touched a gun after his service in the Marines in WWII, so none from my dad.
My son already got the ones he grew up shooting from me.

Guns were for a purpose, thus Dad’s were utilitarian. I have my Grand Father’s Belknap 22 single shot and champion 16 ga single shot, Dads Marlin 35 rem lever and Win 12 ga pump. I still carry the win for grouse and turkey. Only a 2 3/4 chamber with fixed full choke but it has taken more birds than I can recall. Didn’t ever know about the Colt 1911 .45 until he passed. Guess it was there for a purpose too.

I have no doubt the back story of some of the gems I have gotten over the years outta pawnshops are a result of this. My dad brung home two Japanese Officer's swords from Okinawa, gave them to his kid sister in NY State to hold when he left for England to court my mom. Kid sister married a notorious tightwad, never did find out what happened to those swords.

Mostly Native Americans Then they get pissed at each for doing it. Think mostly cause others beat em too it actually... Schitt like that dont fly on my side of the family.

I have my Great Grandfather's 1884 Springfield Trapdoor. He was on a marksmanship team with the NY National Guard. He inscribed the info on the rifle stock. Company D, 12th Regiment NYNG. I am guessing he was a member in 1900-1903 It also has an inspector's mark. I looked it up once and found the name, just don't remember at the moment. Congrats. I am very impressed.

I inhered my Savage 99 300 savage from my Uncle, I also inhered my dad's Savage Stevens 311 12 gauge SXS with a Tenite Stock. The old stock had got so loose I could not keep it on the gun so I had a wooden set made up for it.
Great old guns I use still today.
