Used ones are out ther? What are you using it for? Hunting, skeet, teaching a kid, waterfowl? Have an older Savage/ Stevens in excellent shape if interested. Fixed chokes.

Not much until they prove they will be around for the long run.

Thinking of using it on Chukars.
Just a lite cool little shotgun

There’s a Benelli lite 20 for a grand on the classified.
Just thinking a side by side has more classic appeal ?

have a Yildiz 20 ga SxS I'd sell you. Very pretty little gun, only available at academy sports.

I just bought a Dickinson 28 ga. Actually, my wife bought it for my 50th birthday. (She’s a keeper!) Seems real nice for the money. Only complaint I have is the triggers seem a little heavy. Good value. We are still in the grip of winter here and I haven’t shot it yet.

Lots and lots of options in 20 ga. I think the old SKBs (Japan) were good and new ones are made in the same factory as the Dickinsons. Some nice used Spanish and Italian guns as well.

Thanks, I know zero about side by sides.
I won’t put a lot of rounds through one but don’t want junk.
Some particular brands would help my search.
Thanks for the info.

You are showing him guns with starting bids at the top end of what he wants to pay.

Centrmass,

Here is the the reality.

The Diskinson isn’t a bad SxS. I have seen a couple with some nice wood, but wood is mostly lipstick. They have a long way to go before they prove themselves. Other than that, they haven’t been pounded on enough to have any kind of basis to recommend them.

Those SKB’s are fine SxS’s that are proven and certain ones are exceptional.

That being said most good SxS and O/U’s will not be found for $1500.

If you have to have one now, then those SKB’s as mentioned are excellent buys. If you willing to wait and research SxS’’s and inquire, read and handle a few, then you may want to save and get exactly what you want. Some of the better Spanish examples are as well made as most of the British shotguns and in fact are extremely popular over there. Good used ones can be found, and a friend has just bought a couple older Urgartecha examples in the $2500 range. Relatively plane, but solid, well made and proven.

Fit and finish are rough in my opinion. I would go the SKB route long before the Dickinson.

Have you looked at CZs? Haven't seen one in person, but some reviews have been pretty good, in general, on their Turkish doubles.

You may want to take some time, maybe make a trip to a well-stocked store so you can check them out first-hand. Fit means a LOT. Even a really good gun will cause you grief if you can't hit with it. Been there.

What fresh Hell is this?

The BSS is another. Very well made, but for a field gun they are heavy and not all that lively. The 12’s have found a home with some sporting clay shooters who like the SxS events.

I have plenty of time before fall.
This is the kind of info I was hoping for.

What people like, don’t like and why.

When you say Spanish Guns could you name a few?
I’ll look online for reviews and current prices.

Thanks again.

I would look at F.A.I.R. Or AYA. Been happy with my FAIR o/u. Wish it had better wood but that’s luck of the draw

I would buy an old classic American field grade. As you get the money you can get it cleaned up pretty nice.
