But if you want to see brilliant writing and acting, genius character selection, and have a howling good time, find some Barney Miller episodes.
Abe Vogoda was great.
I liked Highway Patrol - I was pretty young. Broderick Crawford was a Giant, as was my Maternal Grandfather. I thought Crawford would tear the door from the Patrol car , fold it up and put it in his shirt pocket. I can picture him parked in the bar ditch, leaning on the door with the mic in his hand.
Hogan's Hero's I wonder how our POW's felt about that show? ,
I knew an old guy on our block that was Belgian and he hated everything and I mean everything German, shepherds, pinscers, VW, you name it. He was suspected of being an underground sympathizer and lived to tell about it. He always claimed he wouldn't ever have a bad day because he should be dead. He had some hairy stories about WWII.
Fight fire, save lives, laugh in the face of danger.
People knew they had "arrived" when they got lampooned in Al Capp's "Lil' Abner" comic strip. Crawford made his bones as a shriveled-up Indian chief known as "Broderic Crowfoot"! Jerry

They caught some hippies smoking the pot on a episode IIRC The write up and pictures of the hippies at the end of that show said 1 hippie had a kid with a elephant trunk growing out of his nose. Another gouged his own eyes out with a spoon. The 3rd hippie starred in a episode of Lawrence Welk.
The next episode had Elvis starring as a DEA agent sporting the badge President Nixon gave him!!!
. . . And Dan Matthews never, ever, picked up the phone and said, "Hello";.....It was ALWAYS, just :...... "Matthews". Those things are a blast to watch. Haven't seen any of it in a few years, gonna have to dig'em out again.
In the few times I called my dad at his place of work, he always answered, in a matter of fact manner, with just his last name. I think that was the way it was done back in the 50s and early 60s
