That was my question, too. Who needs gas in your car if you're not allowed to leave your home? I've got a half tank, and will be topping it off just in case, now, however. Might be something I'm not seeing. Maybe gas stations will be ordered to sell gas only for official vehicles or something.

No, it is because that reflects the number of sick people out of the total tested. The testing is so sparse that it is near impossible to extrapolate to get a real picture. While kits and labs are available to test samples, they are not available on anything near the scale needed to get representative data. We have a mix of non-cooperation .. Russia seems to be downplaying their numbers, India is either downplaying or not able to test, we have no data from North Korea and you can bet your left nut that with them stuck between China on one side and South Korea on the other, it's going through NK like fire through a dry forest on a windy day. Mexico is like India but on a smaller scale. When all is said and done .. we're not going to have any idea how many people died of this, only a low boundary. I'd expect 1.5 to 2 million in the US alone unless we do drastic measures to quarantine. I don't think we have the will. From the posts here, I'm pretty sure we, on the 'fire, don't. One thing about it ... it'll probably resolve the homeless problem. It'll likely also fix social security because of how it targets the older population. Might fix some other diseases by removing those folks from the population as well.

not a legit measure...if all are collecting in small numbers anyway, the actual location of that precaution doesn't bear on the increase or decrease of the problem

Things just got real here. The public health officer of this county just posted a shelter in place directive. No non-essential travel, no non-essential business, no restaurants or bars open to public effective 5 pm today until April 7 minimum.

I might get arrested when I go fishing with my son this Friday.

I have also been told by two different people, one works in the Pentagon and other is a retired NSA agent, and my next door neighbor, that the government is developing plans to use the military to keep our infrastructure functioning, not shut down our country. Both said, "closing" hot spot cities like New York, major cities along the west coast and even cities like Nashville, could happen. But Marshall Law would not be declared. He said the National Guard would be delivering food if that happens, to those closed in.

This makes sense to me if you think about it. Truck drivers are not going to want to deliver food and medicine to hard hit areas and as American citizens, no one can make them do so. But our members of the military cannot refuse to do those chores. The military can also serve as a police force, emergency care workers, etc. I believe that will happen and will happen soon. The Posse Comitatus Act will be suspended if this happens but that act has been suspended before during the 60's.

Bars and restaurants here are only open to carry out and delivery. Effective midnight last night.

Yet an email from our dentist this afternoon that they are on an emergency only basis for the next 2 weeks and rescheduling all other appointments.

Think they are taking this way too far.

I hadn’t thought about the social security effect. Why do you think it will help the homeless situation? I don’t think it will kill many of them, and they still choose not to participate in society and no one will give them a job. I guess you could reasonably assume between poor health and reluctance to seek help before severe they would die. But at least in my area they are all young.
