Did they put money away every paycheck to prepare for down times or did they live pay check to paycheck and have new trucks they couldn't afford, atv's, boats, tattoos, new tv's every years, every kid have a new cell phone etc? Every logging and mining area in the PNW where I live you see a lot of toys, boats, atv's new trucks in everyone's yard.

You see this every year in the oil patch. Making 6 figures, buying 60 k pick ups, going out to eat every day, no saving and goes bust and have to sell everything.

I lived on cans of expired tuna and ramen noodles in college and worked 30 hours a week carrying a full load.

There is some truth to this, maybe alot...

To start with,I am against wasteful poaching and have turned some in with some tense moments...

Example:
Years ago the North Idaho Silver Valley mines just shut down without much or no warning..Hundreds were without a paycheck immediately, some did not qualify for unemployment and most did not qualify for welfare with a man in the household but the families still needed to eat and feed the kids..I lived there then working green chain at a mill up the river at the time...We all talked about the need for them to feed there families and those that could help..Did...

Would I have turned one of them in for taking a game animal out of season to feed there kids...HELL NO....

But that's just me and most everyone one there at the time that new what really happened not was was put on the news by the mines...

I wish I only had achilles tendon problems. Thats a minor health problem compared who Ive went through and others. My neighbor has had MS for 10 years, wheelchair bound now for past 4 years, college Econ professor at local university. Cant use his right side of body now. His wife drives him to work every day. He's an immigrant who came from a communist country and understands what poor and starving is. I still take him out every elk season in his wheelchair. He would never poach.

No sympathy for you and your poaching. Gonna guess you didn't study too hard in HS. That seems to be a recurring theme with poachers too.

Too lazyy to move to find work and apparently too frightened to join the military to improve your lot in life. Going to set up a go fund me for your poor poor soul. Hope you don't starve to death before I can raise the funds lol
Hard to move when you don't even have enogh money to but groceries don't you think ass hole ? And joining the army wasn't high on my list of things to do at the time with two small children. I couldn't join anyway as I'd already tried a couple years prior and was to;d I could not because of an injury to my achilles tendon which has me listed to this day as partially and permanently disabled.
You are one dumb, judgemental son of a bitch ! My achilles tendon was nearly cut in half on the job. I could have stayed on ss disabilty for my entire adult life and did not. In fact against my doctors advice I went back to work less than a year later and had to sign a waiver staing I knew the risks and was willing to do so against the advice of an orthopedic specialist to do so. That was almost 40 years ago and I've been working ever since, despite the fact that I now have several more health issues that would easily qualify me for disability, so stick it in your ass you cock sucker.

This in spite of the fact that I just spent 11k on a vehicle a few weeks ago and paid for it in cash, Not bad considering the fact that I lost my home and 90% of my belongings in 2006 to a flood and had to start over. I have one more mortgage payment due next month and then I am debt free.

five hip replacements, shot in back, IED explosion, helicopter crash, fused neck ( lost use of left arm due to nerve damage in neck for a year have 50 per cent use now) , hit by a car chasing a drug dealer, shot during a search warrant in a drug house in Philadelphia, from the military and 27 years in law enforcement and still moving after years of PT. Plus all the dead bodies and smells you never forget. And Pt and stretching every day. I dtake a single achilles tendon issue and day and an easy life like greg's.

I work now doing volunteer work with wounded vets taking them hunting and fly fishing. They have a lot worse than me so am thankful I am still somewhat mobile. I have to use hiking poles when I walk and hike because my balance is plugged up. I hunted in elk camp five years on crutches just to get out. I have no handicap sticker on truck even though qualify and could qualify for handicap license and get special hunts, reduced license which I feel I don't qualify.

And I beat colon cancer in Dec 2018. Still have a few stomach issues.

I'd trade places with you Greg in a second

Were you raising a family also buying school cloths/meals/shoes etc...

You are putting everyone in one basket saying that all miners/loggers etc do nothing but buy expensive toys and that is not true..Some do,yes..But not all..We all make choices and sometimes it works out great and other times, not so much...You sound military..lol..Not a bad thing mostly..I grew up a military brat and served my timebut the mentality of the upper ranks, leaves alot to be desired sometimes..Again,not all of them are jerks with stripes or brass...

Her's a pic of my leg after my 4th hip replacement 4 years ago.. My incompetent PT dislocated it during therapy. The PT said she dint dislocate it and I was fine. You can't imagine the pain. My friend drove me t to emergency room and was told my hip was not dislocated and sent me home. A day later the hospital called and said they plugged up and my hip was dislocated and they put back in. Once it dislocates once youre screwed and it come out easily. Two weeks after this happened I was at archery elk camp on crutches. . I hit PT hard but had so much tendon and muscle damage it dislocated 4 more times. Then a 5th hip replacement with special cup. Lost partial use of right leg. Still trying to get back strength by hiking and riding bike as much as I can.

I still won't poach though.

Take a look greg

pic of me and local task force we seized an anti air craft gun ( fully functional) from a Mexican drug cartel who were going to use it to take out rivals and police. They were almost able to obtain rounds for it believe it or not.

8 days after my 5th hip replacement.

Telling how some dipshyts get all bent out of shape over something that happened back in the 1980's. I never even said what I shot to eat back then. Mostly small game, birds and woodchucks. Many a time supper was woodchuck or rabbit and dandelion greens. There is still poaching that goes on around here every year though I haven't needed to myself since way back then. It doesn't bother me and I wouldn't report it unless it was obvious it was somebody out to take big bucks. That's the only thing that really concerns most of you boobs cuz you're afraid somebody might kill your next wall hanger. I don't worry about it. There's always been deer left out in these woods come deer season and I've always been able to fill my tags.

Looks about like mine before I had my knee surgery. It was so swollen I had to wear sweats because my knee wouldn't fit in my jeans. They drained over a quart of fluid out of it before the surgery.

Many here are sure they are worse off or better than the other guy. As far as buying what you need when/ if things went to hell, it won't happen. There would be nothing to buy. No gas to travel, no power at the home, you could have money and get nothing. Is poaching the way to feed your family, probably not. Unless the critters are in your front yard, you would never reach them. If necessary the community would pull together, like the stories my folks told about the depression! This would work in most small communities, in the big cities it's always been dog eat dog! I would donate my time and gill net to the effort, even help drive game, and yes shoot. That would be for survival. To accept poaching because some dip chit, didn't take care of business his whole life is bs! Most of us worked hard all our lives, because some had a harder paper route than the others, or choose a more dangerous profession is just a personal problem. Symphony comes between [bleep] and syphilis in websters. Not a reason to think one is better than the next. Yes there are real dirtbags out there, but their already committing crimes against society! Light'n up!!!!

I poached today. My wife caught me and asked how many did I poach.I learned long ago to never lie to my wife,so I told her the truth.I poached four.

Four, she exclaimed,do you know how much cholesterol is in four eggs?

You sure are a dumbphuck ! Too stupid to see where I already said I didn't let it slow me down or keep me from going back to work less than a year after it happened. How the hell do you manage to live when it's obvious you have the IQ of a root vegetable ?

who said I was a mountain expert ? I used to do a lot of back country hunting since I was a kid into early 2000's before my surgeries. . Now I can get in maybe 2 miles and friends help me out. Is that something to be ashamed of?

I won't poach either but if I absolutely had to,from un-forseen circumstances, to keep my family alive and well...I would not hesitate...

There are to many that have not been there done that..There are also to many military brass that has never been an E-1 through E-4 because they started out as an E-5..There are some awesome law enforcement out there but in the same breath, there are some real duds that break the law often and stick up for those that do also..

So while I am against poaching, I do see where it may be the lessor of two evils to feed the family in a time of crisis..
