$150 Marlin is the "best" .22lr? Grandad used to say "a fool ain't a fool til he opens his mouth and proves it".
Also used to say " God gave you two ears, two eyes and one mouth for a reason"

The guy who keeps pictures of small one-hole groups is most likely someone who hasn't shot too many of them.

With no price point, the Marlin might be the best one. Unlimited budget and most accurate, another animal altogether.

Yeah, I got pictures of a few trophies. It's getting late. Tomorrow I'll try to figure out how to post them here. If not, give me your email address in a PM and I'll send them to you that way. When I do, I'll expect you to eat some serious crow here. How's that? I'm not a BSer.

I'm not familiar with that name, but I know Annie Oakley shot a Marlin.

I remembered I had already uploaded some pictures to the gallery here. I'm just going link to them. One is a picture of me shooting my Cooper 57M in the early days. Another is of me shooting my custom Turbo Sporter at the 2011 Rimfire World Championships and the picture of the trophies is of again my Turbo Sporter and trophies from the NY State Championship. I have pics from my Nationals 2015 win on my computer and can upload those to the gallery if this isn't enough for ya.

The top picture is of me shooting at the 2011 World Rimfire Championships held near Charleston SC. This picture appeared in the Charleston Post and Carrier paper, taken by one of their photographers doing an article on the event. The fellow to my left is an Italian shooter and was a real nice guy. To qualify for the US team, I finished 2nd in 2010 (lost by 2Xs) in the 2010 US IR50/50 Nationals (3 gun; Sporter, 10.5 lb and 13.5 lb classes). You'll be all happy to know that Team US cleaned up big time at that World Championship. My sporter rifle in the picture is a Turbo action, Broughton Barrel, Bill Pippin Stock with a Jewell 2 oz. trigger. The rifle was smithed by Gordon Eck of Claryville NY. I still have that rifle, Bill Pippin is no longer with us and it's irreplaceable.

The middle picture is an early one (2002 or 2003), showing me shooting my Cooper 57M at a local benchrest match. Note my equipment got a little more sophisticated as time went on. I love and still have that Cooper. It shot well enough to get me to go to my first benchrest match. I won the sporter class on my first outing. That Cooper won many local matches for me, beating CZs, Win 52 and Anschutz rifles fairly routinely and several custom rifles on occasion. 1st year production Cooper 57M with 2 digit serial #.

The bottom picture is a picture of my custom Turbo Sporter and trophies won at the 2013 IR50/50 NYS & Regional NE Championship. It was a 2 day 12 target event (NY 3 targets @ 50 yd, NY 3 targets@ 50 Meters, Regional 3 targets 50 yd. Regional 3 targets at 50 Meters). The blue target in the middle is 1st place for the 12 target, 2 day event.

Congratulations, It's nice see folks that can back their talk up, even though they really never ran their mouth. I enjoy bench rest target shooting with a 22 and I've never owned a really good 22 rifle. That's my excuse for not being able to shoot one hole groups and I'm sticking with it.

as usual context is everything. ya marlins are good and anschutz, etc are awesome. but for most guys on a reasonable budget, a great middle of the road option is the ruger 77/22. drop in a $30 dayton traister trigger and toss on as good of a scope as you can afford and it will be a great all around gun. ya it won't be winning any bench rest competitions against $3k guns but it will poke out the eye of a squirrel at 50-75 yards and shoot pop bottle cap sized groups at 50 yards all day with CCI ammo and look good doing it. i have three of them, one each for me and my boys. they can be a little finicky about barrel channel and how much pressure is on the end but a screw driver and/or dremel can fix most minor problems.

That ain't true. My Contenders got a fair number of different barrels. They aren't all .22 RF. One is chambered for shorts.

Depending upon the OP's timeframe, I'd probably have to wait and have a look @ the new Christianson Arms offering that they displayed @ SHOT in Jan. I believe they're going to retail ~$800.

I hope the platform does well enough for CA that they decide to offer a 22Mag version as well.......

Indeed, your IQ gives you away Brissie. If can't figure that out, you need help. But then we knew that.

I won't disagree with you at all. There are plenty of good shooting and nice .22s out there, but when someone is asking "what's the best factory .22" and not, what's the best factory .22 for the money, or, under $500 etc. Then, I take it that they are really asking about the best without any caveats. IMO that's Anschutz, Cooper, old Kimbers, old Win 52s and Voodoo Gun Works territory.

I have 3 rifles that shoot bug holes at 50 with 5 shots, and like diff ammo, ely,rws,cci I shoot a Anschutz 1415/16, CZ 452 anerican,and a ruger 10/22,,, Not afraid to shoot with anyone out to 75y ,,,, the thing about .22s is a trigger at 1.5lbs that breaks like glass,and the best optics you can afford
