Like to hear how the MM's group in those rifles, good hunting ammo, also have you tried std. velocity CCI and Blazer by chance?

Re: the Marlins - I had a couple of semi's - a 795 that had a clip and heavy barrel, shot VERY well. Other was a cheap 75C, tube fed carbine styled after the model 60. Both shot very well. Dropped a blackbird on the wing with the 75C, witnesses. Told my son to remember that, he will probably never see that again!

My local gun guy has several boxes on the shelf. But, they have been there for a while. A long while.

I've tried "upgrading" but it just doesn't "feel" right to be carrying something else. I'll keep using it until they bury me with it or I pass it down to a grandkid somewhere down the line(and that better be a WAYS down the line, my kids are all pretty young AFAIK).

The Winchester Power Points were made in Australia, best 22 ammo you could get for hunting due to it’s greater expansion
It is no longer being made

For a factory rifle the Ruger 77/22 is , in my opinion, is at or near the top.

I've read about the Marlin Papoose? but I can't find any, AR-7's are everywhere for $230 - whatever I end up getting, I'm sure it will meet my needs for a 22

I'd rethink that.

I don't know for sure, but I don't think the Papoose is made anymore. I read it on here in the past few days. I've got a Ruger 10-22 Takedown that came with a padded case that holds the gun and several mags. It has backpack straps and is pretty neat. In fact, I had two of them until I gave my son one for his birthday. IIRC they come with two Ruger twenty-five round mags.

I'm not sure where the OP was going exactly, and I am not a group shooter.

But IME a CZ 455 or Ruger 77/22 is going to get a whole lot of mileage and will be more accurate than most can hold in day-to-day shooting schit.

Both of these rifles have seen thousands upon thousands of rounds in the field on live targets. If they are aimed at something there is a good chance it is gonna die.

CZ 455 American Suppressor Ready is a killing machine. Minor trigger work and nothing else.

Ruger 77/22 with bedding and some minor trigger work is flat out deadly.

A much safer bet.

Trip the banana mags and get some 10 round factory.

^^^This^^^

If I was buying a “takedown” .22 LR, it would be the Ruger 10-22 Backpacker Model. The AR-7 is a POS, IMO.

I've only been around and used one of those TCR's but I was impressed.

Ruger is gonna have to stay ahead of that. Smart move on S&W's part.
